In general, wherever I go, they think I am local. I get asked for directions by other tourists all the time.

People have also thought I am mexican, middle eastern, meditterenean, east indian, native american, and Chinese. I really didn't understand that last one, until someone Chinese told me that I look a lot like an ethnic group from northern China.

The only place where they thought I was an immigrant (not even a tourist!) was Sweden. Brown eyes.

David got so fed up with people asking if he was from Australia that he almost moved back to England. :lol: I was going to have a T-shirt made with a kangaroo and one of those red circle/slashes through it in case it would help. :P It was a refreshing change when someone asked if he was from New Zealand since he didn't think anyone here had even heard of it.

I guess it was since he came from the Midlands area and not many people ever hear that accent here...they normally hear the accents from the movies and don't realize that England has different accents (I guess they think since it's small they all sound alike. :blush: )

The best one was when someone thought he was "the Mexican" that helped her when he was working at Lowe's. :unsure: That still cracks me up.

I have been asked if I am , English, Irish, Scottish or South African, When I tell them I am Australia I usually get " oh isnt that part of New Zealand

But once when I said I was Australia I was asked is that that part of Ireland or England

I cant win lol

People generally assume that I'm either English, South African, or just have a funny Minnesotan accent.

my husband says that people must think he's Latino because Mexicans and other Spanish-speaking people talk to him in Spanish (so he doesn't understand what they're talking about!) i finally overheard someone talking to him in "Spanish" ...turns out they were speaking to him in English with a heavy Spanish-accent. :lol:

I'm American (and Jewish to boot), but if I just have a mustache (as opposed to the small beard and mustache I have now), I get mistaken for Mexican. It's really weird. There will be people coming up to me speaking Spanish all the time! I'm not exaggerating either, as I live in Texas. ;)

So it's not just people from other countries who're currently living in the U.S. who get mistaken for Americans or other nationalities -- it happens to U.S. citizens too! :P
