seems dodgy.

Sure, he's a professor, he's bound be a dodgy **. You know what's funny? He is not in favour of legislative gun control. That's funny laughing.gif

Oh, and an Amazon review doesn't exactly rate as a peer review, but nice try Charles.

If you want to learn, go read up on it, The book to read is Private Guns, Public Health by David Hemenway. Your choice, get educated or keep churning out the nonsense you are so fond of.

This has been my advocation for 40 years. The premise and study are BS. Just because someone published a book does not make it so,

I go by actual, real world experience and results, not supposition and skewed studies. If ANY of that were true at least ONE state would have repealed CC All we have to do is review FBI Uniform Crime Reports for the past 30 years in each state that passed CC.

The argument is done Truth.

we have now THREE Federal court decisions (2 SCOTUS and I Appeals Ct.) reinforcing our rights and 50 states and 30 years of history to back it up. I am not guessing.Way past guessing.

This is arguing "flat earth" stuff Truth. Seriously, flat earth stuff.

What have concealed carry laws go to do with anything? I know your hobby horse is to have CC everywhere for some bizarre reason that escapes me but it really has nothing to do with anything being discussed.

Who is this David Hemenway who wrote 'a book'? David Hemenway, Ph.D., Professor of Health Policy, is Director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center.

Dr. Hemenway teaches classes on injury and on economics. He has won ten teaching awards at Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Hemenway has written widely on injury prevention, including articles on firearms, violence, suicide, child abuse, motor vehicle crashes, fires, falls and fractures. He headed the pilot for the National Violent Death Reporting System, which provides detailed and comparable information on suicide and homicide.

Dr. Hemenway has written five books. Industrywide Voluntary Product Standards (1975) describes the role of voluntary standards and standardization in the U.S. economy. Monitoring and Compliance: the Political Economy of Inspection (1985) describes the importance of inspection processes in ensuring that regulations are followed, and the reasons the system often fails. Prices and Choices (3rd edition) (1993) is a collection of twenty-six of his original essays applying microeconomic theory to everyday life.

Private Guns Public Health (2006) describes the public health approach to reducing firearm violence, and summarized the scientific studies on the firearms and health.

While You Were Sleeping: Success Stories in Injury and Violence Prevention (2009) describes more than sixty successes, and over thirty heroes who have made the world safer. This readable book helps answer the questions “What is public health?” and “What is the public health approach?”

However Gary, compared with your major work "concealed carry laws and crime prevention" his 'little book' is meaningless.

Trumped up studies? Brilliant. Your methodology of choice, "I think it's true, therefore it is!". You don't actually believe I will spend any time on this do you?

No. And I do not care.

Since 1986 we have managed to implement CC in ALL states. 45 states have "shall issue" or no permits required. 5 have "may issue" laws. Within 10 years all of them will have "shall issue" and all will have reciprocity. e have also repealed the GCA of 1968 and implmented legal protection for firearms manuafacturers from frivolous lawsuits. The Firearms Owners Protection Act, 1986 applied uniform laws for the transport of legally owned firearms throughout the country and on "common carriers"...airlines. It forbids airlines refusing firearms as baggage. We repealed the Brady Handgun Control Act and replaced it with the Instant Background Check. We repealed the Assault Weapons Ban, 2004

We have 2 SCOTUS decisions and now a 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that CC is a right. Concealed Carry is a RIGHT, Truth. As it is that applies only to the 7th District and only affected IL because the other states in that district already had concealed carry

These are FACTS, Truth.

I do not care what you believe or whether you educate yourself and I am not wasting time attempting to convince you because you really do not matter. Rights are not a matter of popular opinion and we are going to make you open wide and jam it down your throat with court orders and directed legislation exactly the same way we forced Democrats to recognize civil rights for minorities. This is not an opiton, not a debate, and opinions mean nothing. You are going to open wide and get it stuffed down your throat. You can like it...or not. I do not care.

IL did not challenge the ruling of the 7th circuit because they were implored not to by MA, NJ and CA. A SCOTUS ruling backing it up would have forced it on ALL states. That was the goal. We will achieve it. We have been working on this day and night for 30 years and we will do it for another 30 years if needed. The next case is comng soon, and another and another and another. We are building one by one on each decision and each precedent.

Ah yes, more on the major thesis, 'concealed carry, the violent solution'. Oh sorry, 'Concealed carry, the solution to violence'. Really Gary, this is one major obsession you have going on there. Good luck with it :)

IL became the 50th state with concealed carry last December. By court order

We turned back the Dems attempt to strip or rights earlier this year...and got 4 DEMs to cast the deciding votes rejecting the legislation

I am happy with my luck. You?

Quite.

Open wide and say "Ahhhh"

CC legislation is totally irrelevant to me so why would I be interested? Your faith in it as a panacea for the problems and prevalence of violent crime is misplaced of course but apart from that, so what?

COLUMBUS, Texas – Authorities say a Houston-area man turned the tables on two bank robbery suspects who had abducted him and his wife by pulling a gun on the unsuspecting duo and shooting them both, killing one of them.

The suspects apparently knew that the woman worked at the First National Bank of Eagle Lake in Columbus, and they abducted her and her husband at gunpoint at their residence north of the city on Thursday and drove them back to the bank, Columbus County Sheriff's Sgt. Andrew Weido told Houston television station KHOU.

The suspects forced the woman to taken an undisclosed amount of money from the bank, then forced the husband to drive them in his truck down Highway 71, Weido said. It was then that the husband grabbed a gun that was in the truck and fired at the suspects, he said.

Officers who responded to a 911 call found both suspects lying on the ground near the truck suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to different hospitals, where one of them was pronounced dead. The other suspect remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday. Columbus County authorities didn't respond to calls for comment Saturday.

Investigators didn't disclose the couple's names or say how much money the woman was forced to take from the bank. Investigators have not released the name of the couple or how much money they were forced to take out.

Those who know the couple said that the community has their back.

"I'm sure that they're both going to be upset for a while," resident Brenda Buehler said. "It's a frightening thing to have happen, but I think everybody's going to tell them good job."

Imagine that. A gun nutter saved his own life. I bet that teared up the Libtards

If you say so. I must have missed where people said they shouldn't defend themselves or their family. I'm sure someone did though.

Show me where someone said that in here? No one thinks like that.

Really Penny get you a letter.
