Help! Feedback appreciated.

I am American, my fiance is Canadian. We are planning a wedding in the States for April 2007. We initially consulted an immigration attorney because I was concerned about the timeline and trying as much as we could to make sure he would be able to enter the country before our planned wedding. The attorney suggested that I begin filing the paperwork in early October, which I did. He just received his Packet 3 last week and is in the process of doing everything on the list. His appointment for his physical is next week.

I have spoken to different people at USCIS and also viewed a lot of websites and postings online about visa timelines. Each response I get is different. Some say the process may take 8 months from now, some say it should be done before the wedding. In peoples' experiences, is it possible that we will get the fiance visa and his approval to come to the States before April 2007?

Depending on which consulate in Canada "maybe", Montreal is very busy with quite a backlog, Vancouver tends to be quick.

It is never a good thing to set a date for a wedding until you have visa in hand though.

In my case we plan on a simple civil ceremony shortly after my fiance arrives, then take our time to plan a nice wedding, and restate our vows later.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

From what I understand it depends on whether you go through Vancouver or Montréal. My husband went through MTL. He got P3 in March, got his physical in March. Interview in May. That was this year though. Things might be going at a different time frame now. You might search for others who have timelines similar to yours to give you some idea. As to a wedding in April 07, it's not unreasonable to think it possible. Just depends on when your fiance(e) gets the interview. Best of luck!

It really is quite likely espeically if going through the Vancouver consulate. When I talked with the guy there he said that once they get the faxed page from the packet it takes about 4 weeks for an interview. Can't speak on the Montreal consulate though. So definatly in time for your wedding. Congrats and good luck

I'm happy you found your way to this site. I only joined here yesterday and found out more info than I have in the last 5 months! I too have talked to many people and looked at many sites, and I got different answers from everybody. It was so frustrating. Now being here has put in me on the right track, and it will do the same for you. It is a hard process to understand. I am learning quickly now though. :)
