Sept 3rd! 3 day stops in Vienna and Geneva on the way! Two favorite cities though the Swiss have a national OCD about being clean. It is almost funny. I like that they are armed to the teeth and no one messes with them.

But that was Alla that posted that. She reads over my shoulder sometimes and feels the need to jump in. Sometimes what I type is what she tells me to say. But not always. She isn't going to work either, she is going back to school but she had no idea Costco paid that much...RNs start at about that in our area, but they also get differentials and stuff and most make $25-28 right out of school.

I am going to guess that Costco in Vermont does not pay $22/hr. I have heard they are about the top paying retail type employer, though.

So here is another suggestion for Cinammon and the other guy...

Sign up for a LNA/CNA class. They are usually 5-8 weeks and you can usually get some sort of student non-degree grant to pay for it...check it out with the school offering the class. Go to the class. As soon as you pass the license test there will be hundreds of jobs available to you paying $15-$25/hr depending on the market/shift/differentials/etc. with full benefits and usually very good health benefits, Most of them will be offered by employers who will reimburse or pay for you to go to nursing school...2 years for an RN...then you can get a job paying $28-40 per hour AND they will reimburse or pay for you to take a BSN course online (RN to BSN can be done online) and then you can be a Nurse adminstrator and make tons of money. My sister is a BSN with 20+ years experience and is making WAY north of $100,000 per year. Not bad a for a 4 year degree.

Cinammon could be a BSN 4 years from now. If she waits for the government to raise her pay, how much do you think she will be making 4 years from now?

And they have the option of not taking some benefits and getting extra pay for it. In reality most nurses are probably pushing $40/hr Then they have the "bailers" which work 2-12 hr shifts Friday, Saturday OR Saturday-Sunday and get paid for 40 hours!

Alla's good friend came here from Russia, married an American 5 years ago. About the same time Alla came. She barely spoke English. She learned English and went to nursing school. In three years she was making $1200 per week working 2 days per week (24 hrs) !!!

I know a few that have worked in a nursing home and it can be a tough job, but even the hospitals around here put a big burden on the nurses since the doctors seem to be non existent for some reason. All in all, it's a great choice for a profession and I wish her the best for a successful, rewarding career.

We have a very active and powerful "Progressive Party" in Vermont. The Democrats being considered a bit too much like "Archie Bunker" here. Funny even among them no one has any serious thoughts about taking away our guns. Republicans here have been comotose for decades.

Our current Governor is a Lib Democrat with a 100% A+ rating from the NRA and the Progs say they are not going to run anyone against hom in next years election. They would have to pull from a Senate or House seat and feel like they would lose, so why also lose a seat in the legilsature? At least they have some functioning brains. The good thing about Vermont is they can pretty much poll EVERYONE by buying them a cup of coffee and know what they will do beforehand. Shumlin is going to be re-elected

In this area, if you want a good paying job, you either work for the Hospital or one of the Universities. Or perhaps Costco.

Alla ahs been interpretting since I was hospitalized. This woman was an LNA at the hospital when I was there and intrduced Alla to the woman that heads up the translation dept. Since then Alla took some medical classes and got certified as a "Medical Interpreter" and then decided to pursue an RN, now she wants a BSN which is offered by University of Vermont online. We will see, She has not decided if she will actually pursue a career in nursing or perhaps some other area using her medical/linguistic talents. Who knows? She may just go on to her next degree. She is excellent at being a student. I think soon enough she can just mail order degrees using her combined transcripts.

Anyway her friend does well and is now an RN and scoops up buckets of money for working 2 days per week!

And she was barely able to speak English 5 years ago.

As far as this one, I make no judgements about company busness models and what they pay. Not my business. I don't own stock in Wendy's, I invest my money in my children's education so they do not have to work at Wendy's. We have a minimum wage in this country. What did you expect? You let the government choose the minimum pay, rather than the market, and that is what happens.

As far as Cinnamon goes, she needs to stop relying on an entry level job. Get off her @ss and get out there and educate herself. She can get a bachelors degree in anything before the government is going to force anyone to pay her a living wage. Anyone thinking the BEST thing for Cinammon is a government mandate telling Wendy's what to pay her is either astoundingly stupid or a racist who wants her to stay at Wendy's and not take good jobs from white people.

The good thing is that as long as we leave this area to the marketplace, we ALL have control over what we earn.

Having avoided "Asian fever" by engaging only RUB women for sex for the last decade, I cannot comment on your comparison of the qualities of hookers available in Bangkok. I understand there are hookers in Ukraine, but they have a very tough go of it with all the young, hot, free stuff available.

However, as I have noted many times, Alla is Russian. She was/is a Ukrainian citizen. You are forgetting that just 22 years ago it was all one country called the USSR and Ukraine was a Republic of that country, the same as Texas is a state in the USA. Alla's Russian mother was sent to the Dombass region (part of which is in what is now Ukraine) to be the District Civil Engineer for the Donetsk Oblast. Think of this region as the "Appalachian Region" for example or "midwest region" , not really identifying any exact lines and borders. She is Russian, Alla is Russian. When the USSR ended she found herself living in what became the independent country of Ukraine on August 24, 1991, and received Ukrainian citizenship. All her documents list her as Russian...birth certificate, Ukraine Passport and internal passport. She is now a US citizen. Did your wife cease to be Thai?

Alla is eligible for Russian citizenship also simply by using her Ukrainian passport and USSR birth certificate to identify herself as a Russian.

Like many, many Ukraine citizens, they are Russians. The majority of them speak Russian, very few speak exclusively Ukrainian. In Alla's region you would find it difficult tfo find someone speaking Ukrainian. If you will recall also that when Russia invaded Georgia exactly 5 years ago the reason given was "to protect Russians living in Georgia" It is also why we have the "RUB" forum. Unlike many of the other former Republics, these three countries share a language and customs and most of their citizens are Russians.

Go to Vladivostock, far in the east and see if you can find many Asians there.

That would prob help a little. I think the real problem is building everything on top of the salaries they are paying now. If they paid better salaries, they would be forced to find different ways to make money. They would figure it out but it prob wouldn't be as easy/much as they have been making. But they were wrong to plan everything around minimum wage workers. I'd pay another $1 a burger to ensure all employees were not going to be on medicaid. This is the most likely outcome as the corporations would just pass off any burden to the consumer. No one wants angry stockholders!

The trash dumps are full of the things Americans demanded and then would not pay for.

These businesses have been around for a long time and they make money. Their business model has been good for their investors and that is who they worry about...well, them and the customer. There business has reduced Cinammon's role to almost -0- contact with customers unless she is the drive thru girl and ven then you may only hear her voice. Otherwise she is taking fries out of the grease when the buzzer tells her to.

Now I have not seen your suggested solution to this travesty. Paying another dollar for a burger? But what if a lot of other people do not? She will be out of work and back on welfare.
