Having other citizenships?!?

I am getting ready to apply for my US citizenship.

My friend who also got her US citizenship was allowed to keep her German citizenship.

Now my question:

By birth I am British and German (both country's allow me to keep my citizenship if I get the American.

I printed off the 58 page guide to the citizenship.

Now my question, in the book it states:

Responsibility:

-Give up all prior allegiance to any other nation or sovereignty.

Does this mean I have to give up my other citizenships??

Thanks in advance/

The US government will not force you to give up either citizenship, but the German government will revoke your German citizenship unless you have a BBG from them in your hand by the time your US citizenship oath ceremony occurs.

As long as you have, or have at least applied for your BBG, everything should be fine. If you haven't started your BBG process, you need to research it and get on that right away.

Yes as above me said, apply for BBG in your embassy of Germay and then apply for citizenship. If you don't they will revoke your German citizenship and you can't do anything about it. Earlier (years ago) they wouldn't give you that option they will revoke your German citizenship once you are naturalized. Good luck. I learned some German before lol, but I can't remember much now because I didn't practice it enough. But I remember Wie Heissen zie?

In order to be a dual German citizen you need to file for BBG. Here's a yahoo group about it: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zweipaesse/message/8599

The US doesn't stop you from retaining other citizenships, that is not their right. It's up to the individual countries. I know the UK is fine with dual, and I know German is okay as long as you file for BBG, FIRST!
