What's behind Canada's improving crime stats?

I really enjoyed my 2 years in Quebec. Even the cops were really nice when they threw me in the clink. The taxes are fricking outrageous.

True, but you get a lot more for the taxes you pay. The price of housing is a lot cheaper than the states for the most part too. The only thing that gave me a stroke was the price of booze. And trying to carry around a pocket full of loonies and twoonies.laughing.gif

I think the cops in Canada are why I have a somewhat naive view of law enforcement in this country.

I've simply never encountered one that was a d*ck. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt.

That is very true. It's like night and day.

Yeah same with smokes. I just drove to Plattsburgh and got all my booze and smokes there. Of course that didn't help when going out to the bars.

ETA: I remember the malls all closing at 6 pm except on Thursday nights. I asked them ####### is up with that. They said people want to be home with their families. That was really odd to me.

9PM in Toronto/Mississauga.

They take their civic days pretty serious.

That was annoying as well. Carrying around all that change. Although it makes sense when you think about how much money it costs the govt. to keep paper money in circulation. Another idiotic thing the American govt. refuses to look at.

I'll pass on all the coins, thanks. That is just a pain in the #######, I'll pay for paper money.

Hey, isn't that today?

They seemed to have the attitude of "were here to help out" even when they were busting you for something. In the U.S. it's like get on the ground you slimeball piece of $hit as they use some take down hold they just learned and can't wait to try out.

Nah, it's in the long stretch at the beginning of the year when there isn't any other holiday around. They placed it to break up the long string of vacationless days.

It's sometime in February I think.

Exactly. There isn't the immediate fear/paranoia of what's about to happen to you. It seems there's much more of a mutual respect.

Canada's gun laws must be working. dancin5hr.gif

They are eliminating them and crime is going down.

Is Civic Day the same thing as Family Day?

Never mind, I see that it's not.

FAMILY DAY! Weeee.

It reminds me of the Simpsons episode when the corporations came up with Love Day as a holiday during one of the low sales quarters.

Except in Canada when you have a pocket of change, you have something! You can buy groceries with that stuff. Here...OMG you are all weighed down and have $1.48

No.

A civic holiday (always the first Monday in August, like today) kind of depends on which province/territory you're in.

Crime has been going down since the 90s.

True. This is a cool and not cool at the same time. I have a mindset that change is waste money.

That's the old days. NY and VT cranked up their cig tax and I bet they are about the same now. I quit smoking 4 years ago but even then it was not so much cheaper.
