Basically you have to fix all of society to keep a kid from getting beat down in front of their current "care taker." I dunno I like the idea of something like a very mild flash bang to instantly disorient the attackers (I suppose by standers as well) so that they can be subdued.

I don't have the optimism that you do about being able to root cause these particular three boys situation within several lifetimes if not more. I do agree, working towards the root cause will reduce these numbers and that is no bad thing. However, it worries my that a kid is at the mercy of other kids on this level with no hope of safety.

It's not about fixing the society, it's about doing the job a parent is supposed to do, raise their kids. So many folks have kids and don't raise them. They stay out at night, bring home strangers, don't take an interest in what their child is doing. Like I said before you can do all these things and a kid can still walk into a school with a weapon and gun folks down.

The problem here is if you touch someone child, you are going to have issues with the parents. The school doesn't want to deal with that. If I had to make a choice, I'd make them sign a waiver saying if their child is in a fight, you have the right to separate them with the minimum amout of force, but if you kids try to fight an adult, they get put on their butt. We had that happen in my school once. Teacher drop kicked a student who was trying to fight him. His mother came up there, found out her son was fighting a teacher, and went off on her son all the way to the car.

I think the driver was in a special situation to be able to retire the day after the attack.

re: school's responsibility and whatnots - I just ain't feeling 'it', as the drivers were all employees of a contracting firm, and not the school district, so insurance and liability is skewed, compared to a direct employee of the school district.
