In the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published in 2000 a study on dog bite-related fatalities (DBRF) that covered the years 1979-1998. The study found reports of 327 people killed by dogs over the 20-year period. Using newspaper articles, the CDC was able to obtain breed "identifications" for 238 of the 327 cases of fatal dog attacks; of which "pit bull terrier" or mixes thereof were reportedly involved in 76 cases. The breed with the next-highest number of attributed fatalities was the Rottweiler and mixes thereof, with 44 fatalities.^[3]

Pit bulls can be very dangerous. Unfortunately it's generally humans who train them to be that way. Their size and strength are abused for sick reasons.

Pit bulls, like any other dog, can turn to violence if provoked or abused.

Give a dog a good home, raise them properly, and they'll generally turn out okay. Just like people.

I've been around dogs my entire life. For the majority of my younger life, my mother was a dog obedience instructor out of our home. I've seen all breeds and attitudes and behavioral issues.

Pit bulls can be mean and nobody is denying that. But you're fooling yourself if you don't think environment and how it's raised has something to do with it.

Don't show me a picture of a clearly abused pit bull in an attempt to make your point. Doesn't work.

That dog was trained to be a fighter.

Most pit bulls aren't and they turn out just fine.

Exactly.... most people are becoming exasperated, they see no "progress" and they do things to avoid the situation.

They move,

They avoid public transportation.

They choose private schools

They avoid gatherings with large number of Blacks.
