My girlfriend from colombia wants to visit me neext year.

I understand from various posting that the US wants to be certain the person issued a visa will return to thier own country.

She has two kids, ages 7 & 4, that she is going to leave with her mom for the time of her visit.

Is that enough reason for the US to beieve she will return?

Should I help her open a bank account to show she has money (I would have to place it there).

She currently has no job.

Any other suggestions that would make the possibilities of her tourist visa being granted that we should have before applyng?

Does she have a job in Colombia? She needs to show that she has strong ties to her country (especially financially). Not sure if kids are a strong tie since some people leave kids behind to be raised by the grandparents. Be careful on how you "help" open a bank account. I am not passing judgement on anyone but if you are intending on putting in a large sum of money into her account, that could be seen as suspicious and perhaps and very risky on your part (money disappearing).

I believe that if she has a bank account, she needs to show a certain amount of money over the course of many months to a year.

If she is denied the tourist visa, can you visit her in Colombia instead?

I have known her and her family for about three years. I am in colombia at this time spending the last 3 weeks in her mother's house. So I feel very confident that she will not rob me. We are trying to get an internet buisiness going for her.

I think they will deny you, you are really looking for more of a fiance visa. Kids aren't a strong enough tie, women leave kids to go to other countries all the time. The only thing that might work other than fiance is school visa if she wants to attend a school here and you want to pay. Tourist is pretty cheap to try though if you want to throw caution to the wind, but you're trying in a country that will deny upper middle class people tourist visas.

Personally I think she needs something more in her name to prove she has interest in Colombia. Leaving kids would not be seen as a strong reason for her to return back.

I am sure you are aware in that part of world lot of ppl leave kids with grandparents to seek future in US.

Opening an account and just putting money in there would not work as she will need to show she has a steady source of income, how would she show that?

I am not sure about Colombia but in other parts the consulate advices applicant to show atleast 6 months of bank statements.

The US is not exactly a cheap place to vacation for someone with no job and by the sound of it no savings.

Honestly, the bank account and internet business look like you are desperate for her to come to the US. They will know the timing of the business creation and the bank account opening and deduce this was done for her tourist visa application. Besides, can't an internet business be run from anywhere in the world? Thus not a tie to Columbia?

Focus on what she already has. Are there any events coming up that she must attend? Does she pay bills in her name? does she volunteer on a regular basis and is expected back? Does she participate in her children's school activities? Does she pay a lease or mortgage?

good luck

No job. Money suddenly appearing and she claims is her. Columbia.

You make the conclusion.

The sudden appearance of money is always suspicious especially when the owner has no apparent source of income.

Since the money is coming from the US, what's the tie to Columbia?
