I am a U.S. citizen and my wife is from the Philippnes. We have been married(in Japan) for 5 years now.

We have both been living and working here in Japan for the last 5 years. We plan to stay here in Japan as long as the economy keeps us employed.

My question is- if we plan to visit the U.S. for a short time, but no plans yet to totally move there permanantly, which visa should we choose?

I have read the visa comparison charts but still a little confused, I don't understand, if we apply for the spouse visa, does it mean we have to move to the U.S. within a certain time limit?

Thank you

I believe she would apply for a tourist visa. The problem is she has to be able to prove she must return to Japan. Normally this would difficult to do. However she might be able to do that because you also live in Japan as her USC husband. Very different than a case where the USC resides in the USA. Help her with the info about how to present the case and she should be able to get the visa. Check out the normal form she will use for the application. I suggest she add to that a simple letter explaining your living situation and therefore her need and plans to return. Explain her job and even yours as long term employed in Japan. Keep in mind these cases are usually decided prior to the interview which means they will review what she submits with the application.
