I used to hate Bill O'reilly. Now it seems he has some good topics on his show. It would be a much better show if there were less Bill O'reilly though. I don't think I've ever seen such an arrogant know it all pr!ck try to pass himself off as some kind of fair minded person and keep a straight face.

I have an honest question. Would it be considered racism if a black person was given a job over another black person if both parties were equal in qualification, but one applicant was from inner city Detroit and the other was an immigrant from Accra?

I have a problem with someone who sits there and listens intently when someone is making a point he agrees with, yet constantly interrupts and shouts down people that disagree with his position. I'm not saying he's the only one. Chris Matthews is another one that does that (although he didn't used to). I guess they all do it to some extent. Which is fine, just don't tell people night after night what a fair minded person you are.

Nope, it should be whoever is qualified. If they both showed up dressed for success and did the best they could, what difference would it make where they were from?

If they are both the same race it would not be "racism". It could be a preference of "national origin" which is also illegal. But not racism.

One might argue that American people (all races) are a bunch of lazy slackers, while someone from Africa would be a really hard motivated worker because they know what's it like to be pi$$ poor and not have the govt. to rely on. I don't know if American is a "race"

I could see that. Then the guy from Africa might have a leg up since it's the perception the guy from Detroit would be fighting.

I don't watch TV so I really have no opinion of all these talking heads. I do watch some clips on the internet and some years ago O'Reilly was pushing for this "Megan's Law" which punishes child molesters severely, yada, yada. I have no problem with the law, per se. You can lock up child molesters and throw away the key for all I care, hopefully they will be killed by some lifer in prison.

But he went on this campagin against Vermont because Vermont did not have this law. Yet we are the safest state for children to live in. He was going on about how Florida had passed the law, yet today we are reading a thread about a child being nearly beaten to death in a school bus while the driver watches. I mean that stuff just doesn't happen. That's from outer space or something! Vermont has the law now but we are not any safer because of that law. We always were safe. Or about as safe as one can be.

Seems he is like a lot of those talking heads. I do not give any of them any more credence than another. They are where they are because they bring revenue to the broadcaster and nothing else.

Yeah I think at some point you cross the line from newsperson to entertainer.

Are we still talking about jobs or did you just take a left turn into marriage prospects?

I don't disagree with you just because. protest6wz.gif

There are certain elements that minorities have to deal with you will never see/understand because you don't deal with it. We, as black people are treated like this no matter where we go. Did you know that even in Africa, they don't like us? It's like we chose to come here and be this way. There was an article from a black woman who went there to learn more about her culture. She was a fish out of water, since she didn't speak the language, they rolled their eyes at her and said, oh you're black. She said it was like they didn't even want to deal with her.

Yeah, and when you have multiple 24 hour news stations...I mean what is that? That is simply "news for entertainment" as well as people who stare at "the Weather Channel" 24/7...when no hurricane is coming!

One may think "well that's better for the nations IQ level than Dancing with the Stars" but I am not sure about that.

I was always a bit suprised that someone like Rush Limbaugh can bloviate for 3 hours every day, 5 days per week for 25 years and still hasn't said everything there is to say...but he rakes in the cash and he will be on as many radio stations as he likes for as long as he wants to. Now I do not listen to him much either, 'cause I'm a liberal, but just the fact that it goes on and on...yeah he is an entertainer, so is O'Reilly and Hannity.

Nothing wrong with being an entertainer, or even of entertaining with one view or another of the news. But they often enough make no sense...a campaign against the safetst state in country because they did not pass a law for "child safety"... that I give them all the same consideration I give DWTS.
