It seems that too many have the sense of entitlement. Visiting or immigrating to a country other than your birth country is a privilege not a right. If someone doesn't like the conditions imposed on them to do so, simply pick another destination.

It seems that too many have a sense of superiority. Visiting or immigrating to a country other than your birth country is a royal pain in the #######

and all too often not a fair process.

If someone doesn't like the conditions imposed on them to do so, by all means do pick a more welcoming country and leave your money there instead, as well as let the citizen of that now forsaken country vote the suckers out who cause all the 3 ring circus charades while encouraging

your own country's politicians to equally toughen up on trade agreements for that "superior first" country's exports.

There is a flip side to everything, even a pancake has 2 sides.

On one side the man for whom it is no problem to take a little walk to his bank account and withdraw $10.000 to see his first grandchild or attend

his only child's wedding. He sees no issue, why should he ? Ha...$4600 is mere pocket change says he.

On the other side is a struggling elderly couple who manage to scrape enough up for 2 tickets to do the same. However they have to now abandon their dreams to see their first grand child or attend a wedding or funeral, there is just no way for them to come up with another $4600. Herein is the hurt. If you don't see it you are blind.

We all are getting increasingly globally connected in regards to family.

Let us not throw out the baby with the bath water, I posted this for the very simple reason that anyone should be able to comply with

reasonable rules and regulations. Emphasis on reasonable. Dishing an extra $4600 out upfront to even consider going on an average visit

is not reasonable but insanity.

The point I wanted to make by posting this is not to make it fair for overstays and leeches. The point is to take a look at those honest potential visitors who don't even care to immigrate but just to visit for a couple weeks or months. The people who are the fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends and family of our loved one who we brought or will bring over here. That was my point.

Let them figure out something else to deal with those who break the law and not include honest short term visitors.

Somehow this all turned into the proverbial "Down with the Aliens" battle cry. Family focus anyone ?

You want to do this to your extended family who want to visit you in the future ? Okie dokie then.

Double that $ 4600 to $9200 for one set of parents of your beneficiary and triple it to $ 13.800 if they want to bring another sibling along. That's just the scheme, not the tickets etc.....

Smart new scheme ? I think not. Do the math or fork it over. Or keep talking and embracing it because your country is not included. Yet.

In case you have too much money to blow...I will take some to fix that for you.

Did you read the entire thing or just get so butt hurt about it you missed the major points?

1) not everyone is required to pay

2) the money is refunded when the person abides by their visa

which makes sense so that would equal IMO

3) eventually people won't have to pay if they abide by the visa rules because they'll show a history of doing such...

Is it fair that the people of the UK pay for health care for people who do not pay into their health care system? The US demands that everyone have private insurance to pay for anything health care related. If you are from another country, you better have travel insurance or stay very safe because that broken arm will cost you both arms and a leg. Forget it if you're in a car accident!! You might as well scramble home on the next available flight, dragging your bleeding body, crawling like a worm because it's cheaper than paying the hospital! How about all the children in the USA who suffer from cancer but their parents can't afford treatment? Well people abuse the fact that medical care and prescriptions are FREE in the UK. But they're really not, they're paid for by taxes. If you don't pay taxes that means you're doing nothing better than mooching off the system. Stealing money from the pockets of hard working people.

Is it that bad that the UK doesn't want to trade business with those kinds of people? I can hardly blame them. I don't think the average Joe will have to pay this.

As a note: my mother informed me once that for a 6 month visa to Canada, people from Aus and NZ had to have minimum 5k in their bank accounts to be granted the visa. This was to insure that they were able to pay their own way. Perhaps you'd prefer that instead? For every visit you want to make to the UK you have to sign an agreement that you'll pay back all health care costs incurred unless previous travel insurance is purchased and is found to be sufficient AND you have 3000lbs worth of money in your savings account that is available for use in the UK. Maybe that would make you feel better about the "bond."

Didn't miss a beat, much less the major points. Seems you did though.

1) The HC back paddled the "not everyone" due to protests and pressure from the countries involved.

Fact is we aren't sure what they will decide. The initial reports said all 6 countries without specifying any particular citizen exemption.

How to sort through people that have not gone yet ? Ah...yes, the rich and famous.

2) How many third world people have it to bond ? Not many. That was what my previous post was about, tired of regurgitating it again.

One has to have it first before they can get it back !

3) That is still an assumption not a fact.

As for the rest of your post, refer to the battle cry !

This topic was not meant as my master thesis on how to curb overstays and drain on the health care system. wink.png Only to point out the ridiculous

non creative means to an end that can be solved by a fairer process than sock it to everyone. It remains to be seen who if anyone

will be exempt and how they define "only some high risk applicants" in the HC's latest "clarification". Bet you it will be the same stereotypical mess and cover the entire countries as initially intended in the news releases.

Last but not least, nope your comment does not make me feel better about the bond, to drag an honest applicant through a $4600 demand because he is from a specific country. Innocent until proven guilty still means something to me. Discrimination and oppression of the west to third countries does not make me say whip out the bond. Not at all.

In all honesty and with a bit of perspective and sense of history, the monies that you mention are a mere drop in the ocean compared to the mountains of treasure the UK robbed and extracted from said countries over a few centuries... And, ironically, it was virtually impossible to make THEM leave back in the day....

We have but one planet here to inhabit, and we desperately need to learn to get along! Compassion and perspective never hurt anyone...

So you are saying that because the British colonised other countries we now have no right to control illegal immigration? You and the other UK haters do realise that exploiting others and gaining resources at the expense of others is not just a British or Northern European trait right? Aztecs, Zulu's, Mongols, Romans, Persians, Moors, Egyptians et al all took what they wanted from their weaker neighbours when they were dominant whether the wealth stolen was in slaves, cattle or gold etc. It's a human trait unfortunately and it continues today more in the form of corporations and big business than via nation states. I'm not proud of my country's role in extracting wealth from others but I am proud that we outlawed slavery first and made other countries outlaw it too and that we bankrupted ourselves stopping Hitler in WW2 when countries like Russia and the US did nothing until attacked. There are far worse countries in the world than the UK and if some of you looked at the world without bias you would realise that.

I get those red-top rags mixed up.

My point is this. What your countries leaders are "doing" isn't "something about the problem" of health tourism. Or the "problem" of overstayers. Or anything remotely like that at all. What they are "doing" is sh*tting their pants over Nigel Farage and his gang. And in the process, they are willing to do any discriminatory, racist thing to get the vote. Including picking people off of buses and trains (based upon their skin color) and asking them to see their papers. Or putting rolling billboards on the streets of London displaying the slogan "Go Home or Face Arrest".

It is one thing for a country to address legitimate migration problems. It is quite another to whip up public anger on the street.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

saving money for the ticket, the accommodation, food etc....I would never want to visit and come up with $10 000 to see the UK ...laughter...

This insanity is a deterrent for third world visitors who want to see their kids and grand kids, sight see, spend money there, scope out potential business for the future etc....this was set up to discourage visitors unless they are the "brightest and best" read the rich and wealthy ....what else is new ?

It will burn like a jalapeno in Cameron's rear end one day.

They're free to set the rules to enter their country whatever way their want. It is their country... No one was forcing sons kids and grand kids to move there.... Also, they didn't say they can't come, just set the rules. Fair in my mind.

US has VWP for some countries, others have to go through B2 visa process. Why that doesn't bother you ?

Any country has the right to set their own immigration policies. If they decide to let no one in at all, it is their right. Venting is one thing, but bringing up past colonialism, morals, and justice, over this is really making a mountain out of a molehill. Requiring a deposit from high risk applicants, is not all that extreme, or unprecidented. It's less stringent than many other countries' policies. I really see nothing to howl about here. I also doubt any dip in tourists from those 6 countires is going to cripple the UK's international trade and tourism industries as some suggest - that's the reason for the proposal. They are comparing numbers to numbers.

Exactly !

Discrimination.

Exploiting the third world once again. It wasn't enough to take their resources with exploitation after exploitation during colonial times. I hope it does some real jumbalaya with their trade 'statistics' in the near future. Idiots.

So they countries this list are not the ones exploiting the UK? Because going on a visitor visa and then not leaving when you say you will is actually the definition of exploit:

"Defines to take advantage of something (a person, situation, etc.), especially unethically or unjustifly for one's own end."
