Same Sex Marriage Forum

The forums discuss the processes needed for immigration. If the process is the same for same sex couples then there is no need for separate forums to discuss their immigration journeys. If same sex couples had to go through a different process than heterosexual couples, then having a separate forum to discuss the different process would make sense. They don't, so it doesn't.

There are two AOS forums, even though the AOS process is identical for the separated groups.

There is a military forum, even though actual differnces from a military process/civilian process are subtle.

The Regional Forums were originally formed to allow ONE cultural group a place to post without "invasion" from haters.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Actually the AOS process for AOS from a K1 is different in many ways, for example if a K1:

1. No need to file an I-130 if married in the 90 days and less than 2 years married;

2. No need to file an I-693 if the medical is complete;

3. No need to worry about a 2-year "home stay" requirement;

4. Status while on a K1 and haven't filed AOS;

... Plus I'm sure there would be more. It makes sense to have those separate.

The military thread is more to deal with military specific issues such as:

1. Deployment during AOS

2. Possible expedites

3. How to getting access to military benefits

... also I'm sure more

The Regional Forums may have been for that reason (that I don't know) but they're necessary because:

1. there are region specific issues with processing;

2. So people can have support from their countrymen/women in their native language

3. Asking country specific questions about non-immigration matters.

Same-sex is exactly the same as either AOS from a K1, or filing a CR-1, or filing AOS within the US. There is no need to segregate them off from "regular" filings. It's the same now, the suggestion could almost be offensive.

That said, it might be beneficial to have a non-specific immigration support forum for same-sex couples. That is if they want one. For immigration questions though, the answers are the same for different sex... the only question I don't know the answer to will be whether X country's civil marriage/contract would be recognised as a marriage or whether a K1 would be required... so maybe a Wiki or a thread about that would be beneficial.

"AOS from other categories" was not broken off the AOS forum because of differences in the process. It was broken off because people filing in that manner were getting attacked from those who came over on fiance visas.

And as you note, the "military" differences have little to do with paper processing. They have to do with nuances of military life.

And - trust me - the reason I earlier stated for the creation of the Regional Forums is accurate.

I am of a mind that certain posters would prefer for same-sex questions to be out in the general forums so they can use those threads for their playground activity. If the questoins were isolated to a particular area, they'd be easier to moderate. And some people don't want that.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

The sad fact is that there have been folk like that here on VJ since before I got here. :(

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
