My husband and I will be moving to the US on August 15th. I am the US citizen and he will be a permanent resident. He will not begin his job until September 15th, so we are looking into short-term health insurance that will cover us from Aug. 15th to Sept. 15th. For that one month period we will be on a roadtrip before finally settling in Georgia around Sept. 15th. We found a policy through www.ehealthinsurance.com with Assurant, but we realized that we were not eligible as we had not been living in the US for at least a year prior.

Does anyone have any experience with obtaining short-term health insurance right after moving to the US?

Are there any health insurance companies that will provide short-term insurance for new immigrants and US citizens returning from a long stay abroad?

Also does anyone have any insight into how long-term health insurance works for a situation like ours?

My husband will be buying his own health insurance policy (his job will provide him with a stipend for him to purchase it himself).

Will he have any problems with eligibility because he hasn't been in the US for 6months/1 year?

We were thinking of going with BCBS.

Thanks for your insight.

Better to look into travel insurance prior to immigrating. All insurers I am aware of require a waiting period for those in the US fewer than 6 months at best.
