How do you come up with that nonsense? I have not said anything of the sort. Education is great. You should have tried some for yourself. Then you may have been able to respond to a post with something that actually relates to it rather than with something that doesn't.

What I have suggested over and over and over is that people (of any race) receiving welfare benefits should be required to work and/or go to school 40 hours per week without penalty in benefits for a period of time (maybe 3 years? 5 years? TBD) so that while receiving help they can get the education and skills and references needed to obtain a good paying job and eliminate the need for welfare. The problem is that many of the people in the black community lack the education and skills and references to receive a job which pays more than they receive in welfare benefits.

In fact I have not suggested anything else.

You disagree with me and hurl personal insults (more than half the above post is devoted to a personal insult and has nothing to do with the topic) for suggesting it. I conclude, therefore, you are against people on welfare being educated and gaining job skills.

Seems like overcoming "blackness" as a black citizen ought to be easier than overcoming illegal presence, lack of being able to speak the langauge and no documentation of skills, education or even a reference. Yet black teen unemployment is at 41% and illegal alien unemployment is at -0- %

Illegals don't have to worry about racism because they work for less than minimum wage, don't get any benefits from their employers, can't form a union, and no matter what happens, they can't complain. I know this because in DC when I worked at the WNY, one of my workmates was recalling how he worked for a construction company that hired nothing but illegals. I asked him wouldn't that be a problem? He said hell no, all they have to do is tell them what to do and they do it. When he got an hour for lunch, they got 15 minutes, when he worked overtime and got paid, that was the regular hours for them and they got paid less. It's slave labor more or less. This is why I tell folks who complain about illegals taking their jobs, talk to the employers. They are the ones hiring them.

You don't have the slightest clue what it means to overcome blackness. We are held in contempt in almost every country in the world. I would know, I've been to 16 different countries and with the exception of maybe one or two countries where my shipmates and I were treated like regular folks, I deal with it 24/7.

Heck, our son working on a doctorate in physics worked at the local grocery store stocking shelves at night, Pasha, a math major, cleaned the lot at a drive in theatre and was a cashier at a small grocery. It is EXPERIENCE. Sergey is now doing a summer research project for NASA at Rice University. A couple years of school and experience make a difference.

At the very least we need to stop penalizing families who are trying to WORK out of welfare by taking away benefits if a teenager gets a job.

Now if you have a problem with educating young people and giving them job experience and references, then just say so! If you think it might be beneficial for young people to be educated and/or get some job experience without penalizing their families for making some money...then say so. Good grief.

We are not that far removed from the civil rights movement and people are "tired" of hearing it. The civil rights movement was to remove the institutionalized acts of racism only. It did little to raise the living conditions of those already in poverty. With the crash of the manufacturing sector more and more of these areas become war zones.

The fact is that being black no matter where you go you're still identified as black. So before you can get your foot in the door there is that first hurdle to get over. That doesn't happen to non-brown people as much. Most even want affirmative action obliterated even though they'll freely admit blacks were treated badly for a very very long time in the US. But it's all better now right?

You yourself hired some people of color recently correct? To do some home improvement type work? You hired them because these "questionable immigration status workers" would do the work dirt cheap. Maybe unlicensed? Maybe without permits? Point being that happens all over the US and all those jobs therefore cannot be done by the indigenous population who needs to work. Hey I don't blame you, the loophole is there.

So when you blame the crime numbers on those living in and around poverty remember that bottom line everyone has got to eat. Either we as a people give them jobs or wait for them to crawl through our windows. It's street economics 101.

No I hired him because he came highly recommendation I desperately needed someone who had some skills. When you pull your pants up, work hard and are honest people want to hire you regardless of your race.. P.S. 18 bucks per hour is not cheap around here.

There is a reason young black males have trouble getting jobs around here. 60% of them drop out of school..When they do seek work, honestly . Many have come in looking for work with their underwear hanging out and every other word is "know what I saying or MF"

You get it. BUT what is considered a living wage here (they say it is $12.15 per hour) is far below the benefits a family can earn on welfare which is nearly $50,000 per year income equivilent.

Now I guess at some point we could reduce benefits appropriately.

I do not wish to see people live in terrible poverty, that is NOT good for the future either. I do not wish to see people be hopeless or never have a feeling of being independent. But it is a long way from uneducated and inexperienced to $50,000 per year. In fact that is more than the average income for the state...or the United States

I also do not believe in "handouts" and that is what it is IF there is no path out for the people. I have no porblem with a "hand up". WE will provide them their needs IF they are working on a path to provide them for themselves. People who are mentally or physically unable to are different but they are few.

In the long run, then, the family becomes independent and the children or grandchildren can leave behind this life of ghettos and projects and food stamps and crime and poverty. It may not make a difference this year or next year but maybe in 10 years or 30 years. What if the black family unit could be restored to the level it was in 1950 with the opportunities for blacks in 2013????

Anyway, education and experience won't hurt anyone.
