Nothing here could possibly affect me emotionally. As I have said many times , if you take any of this Pontification and bloviating seriously you need help.

As one of the unwashed masses told me, "no one will take you serious". I said, Hell I don't even take me serious why should you.

I like it. Mine is, "Why would you listen to me? I don't even listen to me most of the time."

Except the Gary program never saw $400,000. I have kids with college educations though and no student loans! laughing.gif

Oh well, we all invest where we choose. I had bought a place on an island with an older house and a lot of property and lake frontage. I was going to live in the old house, build a new one and then tear down the old one. Best laid plans of mice and men, eh? But it turned out to be not a good location when Alla and the boys were added to the mix so we had to sell it...barely broke even but had enough for the next place in town which is more suitable than living on an island, but the prices have not increased much so nothing doing in that area. But we have a nice house in a good location so who's to complain? I never had a lot of luck in Real Estate, Best to just hang onto my house and live there. Good luck to you though.

The last two houses I bought had garage apartments. The first one was a Batch pad small place and the Apt more than paid the mortgage.

My current house which is more suited for a wife also has one and it pays 85% of mortgage.

I rent the old house and the garage apt doubles the rent value.

Of course here in Mid GA 200,000 is a very nice home. 200,000 can get you 3000+ sq ft Stucco or brick in a good neighborhood.

You can pick up homes on the edge of the hood for 30-40K. 3br 2/ba.

I was the same. I had no clue what I was getting in to. I actually used to read lots in the upper forums and you, Darnell and a few of the others always had good thoughts on many subjects. (That's right, even Darnell.) This site was so valuable to me, but I'm like you, I wish I knew about it before the whole process. It would have been a lot cheaper for sure. I even used to try to help people till I realized the only things I was telling people was already on this site in mulitple, mulitple, muliple, threads. The P&R forums are right enjoyable though, even if they are similar in redundancy. For internet forums, these are quite tame and its small enough to get an idea of the players.

Yeah I don't go to the upper forums so much for the same reason. You can only answer the same questions so many thousands of times. Its a two page form, y'know? Darnell has been around a long time also. He is a good cat.

I actually found the site before I started the process but not before I asked Alla to marry me. We were not in a great hurry to do this because we both had jobs, she had kids in school, yada, yada. It wasn;t like being breathless 20 somethings that had to rush to the post office with the form. We took several months getting everything ready before sending it, but we are weird cautious like that. Actually we had the kids to think about and there were lots of things to check on...not least of which was the letter from the kid's AWOL father and Sergey's education in Russia. Those had to be arranged first or the deal was off and I would be teaching English in Ukraine.laughing.gif

I do go to the Ukraine portal and RUB forum everyday because there are often specific questions unique to Ukraine and I still like to answer questions for people with children.Plus that is where the other RUB guys are and we can talk about things we have in common with RUB husbands and warn the new guys and stuff.

I don't go to any other internet forums so I will take your word for it

I have an unfinished room above the garage I was going to finish for a MIL apartment. Now we got her I-130 approved and she does not want to come to the USA! Again, She did, she didn't, she did...now she doesn't. we can delay the interview for some period. We can play around with this approved petition for another 9 months or so with extensions. Then she could have the interview and delay her entry into the US. We just need to catch her in one of her "OK, I want to go to the USA" moods. We will see. She is going to get to the point where she can't live alone. We have kicked around the idea of returning here to Ukraine for a couple years. Alla is a citizen so we could and always return to the US later. We can both teach English which is in demand. Who knows?

$200,000 here gets a 2br frame home that is 80 years old. Ridiculous! Unless you move out of town by 30 miles or so.

I once met with Senator Sanders. I said to him "Senator I do not agree with you on a lot of things, but I give you credit for being sincere in wanting to help our state" He said "If you agree with me on 8 things...vote for me. If you agree with me on 12 things, better check into a mental hospital"

another good quote...

"it is only important that I know when I am serious"

My experience in the upper forums is one guy who knows his shat and several that may or may not have good info. You are right same ol questions.

There is a guy in the Philippino forum named hank. He always gets it right . Patient as the day is long

The upper forums are full of people who are so anxious about the whole thing that they aren't even rationally reading forms and instructions.

I tried to participate up there on a regular basis, but I got tired of telling people to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS when they'd ask where to send their damn petition.

I admit I was clueless about the process when I first started here, but I at least read some sh*t before I started making dozens of posts about it.

Yeah I'm done up there as well. I was actually trying to helpful by suggesting maybe VJ should have a sub-forum for the same-sex couples that are immigrating, because they still do face some challenges, namely where they can get married etc. I was called out as some kind of homosexual segregationist for suggesting it. I'll assist the occasional Thai, but that's it for me up there.

If I want to get called out, I'll stick around here in P&R or CHEST or whatever it's called.
