Applied while still common law (Canada)

Hi All,

We've been living together in Canada, as common law, for the past 10 years. Last April we got officially married just before we found out on May 1 that we were selected for further processing of DV Diversity Visa for 2014.

We have proof we've been together (common law) such as tax filling, house purchased on both names, etc, dating back many years.

Does anyone know if the fact that we were not officially married at the time we applied for the Green Card Visa could be a problem at the Interview at the Embassy and therefore the file rejected?

Thanks

No, it won't be a problem, and the fact that you got married before selection will help your case a lot - the alarm bells come up when people get married after selection as it flags a potential "green card marriage". Just make sure you send DS230s for both yourself and your spouse and take evidence of a bona fide relationship with you to the interview.
