Guns and stuff

  1. 1. I have a gun on my person. Am I looking for trouble?

    • Yes. You cannot carry a gun unless you are looking for trouble.
    • No. You can carry a gun and go about your everyday business.
    • Maybe. You might do more vigilante style profiling than normal.

unless you are properly trained you are just kidding yourself and there is a good chance you will contribute to violence, not prevent it.

Where are you getting these "facts" from? I've seen videos of CCW holders pulling out their CCW and criminals running off; the best one was an 80 year old dude in a Florida internet cafe. I wonder how much training he had.

You keep talking about a lack of training leading to an increased risk. Where is that coming from? Simply showing the criminal a gun is often enough to stop the crime in progress. There are absolutely zero instances I can think of where returning fire (or firing first) when one's life is in immediate danger would put that person's life in more danger.

If you're referring to the vigilante style wannabe cops that track black teenagers in the rain going all willy-nilly and shooting the town up.... please post some stats. From what I've gathered, those tend to be the dudes that have had some training and they typically hit their intended targets and only their intended targets. You're asking for more of those guys?

Overwhelmingly, the guys who have had some training (aka the police) are the guys who hit unintended targets more than any of the CCW holders. Training isn't always as good as it's made out to be. Some of you think our cops could take on a Seal Team or the cartel. Most of them shoot their 30 rounds every six months or so at a man sized target posted at 7 yards and have to score 7 out of 10 hits. Training? Really?

I've met everyone from brand noobs to Jedi Masters at the gun range. Cops, believe it or not, can be in both of those categories. There's nothing special about them just because they're sworn officers and get to ride around on our dime all day. They - like every other citizen - are only special if they take it upon themselves to become so.

The life and death issue of CCW isn't about overcoming the adversary. It's simply about surviving the encounter.

I don't spend my time perusing the internet for evidence of gun heroes. You clearly do. Have at it Slim, I have no interest in your doomsday point of view. I have lived in lots of different places and have never, ever felt myself to be at risk because I don't carry a gun. Obviously I am not wrong, I have not witnessed a shooting and I haven't been shot at. I was in close proximity to a bomb going off once, but a gun would not have made one iota of a difference to that particular scenario. Life in the 21st century in the US is by and large a safe experience compared with bygone days. I am very glad of that. I don't have to think about carrying arms for self defense because the evidence tells me I don't need to so I don't. It's all quite simple.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Hey Slim, off topic question, has Matt been around on the RUB forum? He was the guy with the Hulk Hogan flexing avatar. I know he changed his name from Matt to something else, but I forget what. I haven't seen him post for quite a while.

I couldn't tell you. I haven't been on the RUB forum in ages. I stopped in there about a month ago (right about when I started posting on here again) but only posted a few times. Didn't see too many familiar faces.

I've been out of the game for way too long!

Ahh but we had all the fun and got all the chicks

Not really but they told us that

I went thru basic infantry school with some guys that could not have held a job in the market place..ER

I went through Air Force basic training and the first thing they did after that was send me off to the Army base to become a machine gunner. Recruiter got me with that whole, "we get all the chicks" BS too. Ended up being nothing more than a grunt.

.... but did get all the chicks though. biggrin.png

Can't say that I do.

About the only real names I remember are the lady who sent me naked pictures and the folks I've actually met in person. Oh, and Gary. Kip and Gary are VJ legends!

Booyah was the Australian who had the American wife and all he did was post anti America bs everyday. I remember you had a few go rounds with him on guns. Australia had a gun ban and most people turned in their guns and the crime rate actually went up. He was anti gun and bragged about Australia constantly.

I saw an article just yesterday about guns still being a problem in Australia. Now that they've been outlawed, they're being smuggled in and even manufactured.

Seems people still want them. Good thing law abiding citizens have to protect themselves with single shots and shotguns.

Interesting. So what you're saying is even after making guns illegal, people are still getting them? Shocker!

Here I thought that when you didn't want people to have something they want, you simply outlawed it and the problem would go away.

Also, I'd think a country that has no land borders at all would be able to keep these guns out pretty easily. Imagine if they had a land border with a country who's law enforcement capability has basically been reduced to nothing.

Oh well, let's pass some more laws here in the U.S. so we can all feel better.
