Congrats!

I hope the rest of you get some good news soon too!

sjk&cjj -

I can't believe you paid for a lawyer and still had all those issues! They are supposed to be making the whole process easy and smooth - not more complicated and slow. Hopefully you will have everything taken care of now! Good Luck smile.png

@Sarah---Nichelle

We're actually having doubts as to whether having a lawyer file for us was worth it. We were ready to file for the K-1 visa right after DOMA was struck down by SCOTUS. Instead, we were advised by the lawyer to wait until the USCIS and DOS had released their guidelines for same-sex couples. So instead of having a NOA1 in early July, we ended up getting a NOA1 in mid August.

The lawyer has been valuable though in guiding us through the forms. There were questions that needed lawyerly skill in answering. LOL

We couriered our reply to the RFE on 28 October 2013. The lawyers should receive the additional papers on 30 October 2013 in Los Angeles, CA, and we are hoping USCIS receives the RFE reply by 1 November 2013.

Congrats on your NOA2 and looking forward to getting ours!

So happy to hear of folks getting their NOA2s approved. We will all get there. Waiting just like everyone else is called equality. Before DOMA was struck down in June 2013, this was all just a pipe dream. Now, it's really happening!

In our case, we are in the process of rebuilding our life as a couple. We're living together again in my home country. And we hope to be living together again in the US. Very soon.

Congratulations to all of the recipients of the awesome NOA2!!! You will be notified by USCIS as soon as they ship your paperwork to NVC. I waited about a week after it shipped and started calling. Be prepared to wait on hold 30+ minutes. I remember I called one day, left the call in my car, got off at Walmart bought some stuff I needed came back and the hold music was still going. The first time I called the guy was rude, simply said did you have record of my receipt number and call ended. Second time I called I was surprised how nice the lady was, bad news is that she told me to wait 8 weeks and then they would have case number ready. I felt discouraged but I waited a few more days and called yesterday, and they provided me with our case number and told me it would be shipped as well the same day. I checked NVC status website today and have READY status. Just waiting for packet in the mail to move this along and get interview date. Everything has really moved along quickly after NOA2. For those of you still waiting hang in there, it's all worth the wait! Best of luck to all of you out there!

My fiancé and I are seriously considering getting a different lawyer because of the RFE we received. Both of us think it was their lack of diligence that caused the RFE. The lawyer's service was for the I-129F petition, so I believe once we get the NOA2, their service is over. We would then be free to choose a new lawyer for the consulate portion of the process.

I would definitely think about that because it seems as though the one you have now hasn't done you any favors! Although I am sure your lawyer is more than willing to accept all the payments dry.png

I considered using a lawyer for about an hour until I had spoken with one and realized how extremely far out of my budget it was. I'm in my mid-20's now and I knew there was no way I could ever afford consulting a lawyer - so I more or less relied on this site for all the advice I could get. Every form I filled out based on the examples on this website and checked over every list and guide to make sure I had everything I needed.

Once I sent everything in - I joined this forum and have been learning so much from everyone else.

We just got our interview letter today after we sent our DS-160 form to the embassy last week!

There were a few questions and things that we were unsure about - but we always could find the answer either by talking on here or by contacting the embassy/DOS and I can't say we've had any real issues so far.

NOA1: 07-23-2013

Interview Date: 12-05-2013

She could be here for Christmas... biggrin.png

But yeah - I would honestly consider not even using a lawyer. Of course whatever makes you feel comfortable, but if you do, hopefully your next one is a lot more efficient and involved than your current one.

My employer was willing to pay for a lawyer to help me out. I consulted with one and I was turned away. I took on the whole process by myself and with the help of this website no added costs no dumb lawyers to deal with and all we're just waiting for the packet to arrive. The whole process including RFE has been a breeze. I will also be taking on the AOS as soon as we're married and looking forward to that without a lawyer as well.
