Why do you need your employment authorisation document to apply for a social security number? Applying with a K-1 Visa, you should of gotten your number within 10 days of arriving in the country.

long story but when i applied i applied in my married name after getting married, They denied it and said i had to wait to AOS.

When i found out it was less than 2 weeks before my I94 was going to expire so i ran out of time .

im confused i got 3 emails today one said that my name have been updated on my i765 another said the same thing for my i131 and the 3rd said that my i131 was approved. does this mean that my i765 is also approved? and also how long before i get the i131 in hand? as i have travel plans for nov15 to jamaica.

Chances are your I-765 is also approved. I never got anything confirming my AP was approved but I received an EAD/AP combo card. In fact, my AP is still in "Initial Review" online even though i've been approved.

As for how long it will take. Based on my observations (from this forum and others) you will get the first email/text saying the card is in production. Approximately 5 days later you receive a second email/text saying the same thing but with the current date. 3 days after that you will receive the tracking number and 2 days after that (depending on USPS) you'll get the card in the mail.

Remember the AP does NOT guarantee admission into the United States so be mindful.

Hello all,

It has been so great reading everyone's good news. We had our interview in Charlotte, NC today and here is how it went:

We arrived 45 minutes before our interview time (1:45pm). After we checked in, our immigration officer came to the waiting room and called us in at around 1:35. She was an extremely nice lady in her late twenties-early thirties. She asked to see all our IDs (driver's licenses, passports, I-94, EAD). She swore us in and asked us to verify our names, address, DOB, SSN..etc. She asked my husband to verify that he still works for his company. She asked him to confirm his signature on form I-130. Then she asked me the lengthy list of yes/no questions on form I-485. She looked at the evidence we had already submitted with our packet (joint bank accounts, credit cards, dental insurance, life insurance, co-owned house (which she seemed very impressed by)). We told her we had a lot more evidence; we actually had two bags full of documents! These include documentation of trips we took together, e-mails we exchanged while apart, credit card statements, power of attorneys, wills and a lot of pictures taken in 2008-present. She said all she needed to see was a few pictures of us. we showed her a photo book that we had made of my husbands trip to Palestine to meet my family in 2009 and she loved that. We had 100+ other pictures and she kept a few (4-6) for "the file". She seemed to particularly like our pictures with each other's family. She explained what conditional permanent residency means and she took my I-94 and EAD. She printed out her notice of approval which had directions on how to file for removal of conditions. She said we were approved and that I would get my green card in the next 30 days. I asked her if they still stamp passports, but she said she only does it if someone has an already booked itinerary with travel plans in the next 30 days. Before we left the parking lot, I had already received an email saying my card was in production, but then three hours later it changed to "decision" saying they registered me as a permanent resident.

Throughout the interview she was very pleasant. We talked about my home country, our food, my family and her one-year-old daughter. The fact that we were a same-sex couple never came up, except she said she was glad we had loving and supportive families. She said she could tell we have been together for so long and that it is clear that we have been living like a married couple for years (although we couldn't get married until recently).

I hope everyone on here has as easy and seamless journey as ours. I cannot wait to receive the green card !!

Good news! Received the text message this morning with interview date of November 19 at Sacramento office. My cell phone was on the bed stand and the text message woke me up right at 4:00AM. I couldn't stand the mystery so checked the status at the USCIS website and saw the date of the interview. I think the timing will work out great.

We went down to the Social Security Card office today. I say SS card office because of all the SS offices, there is only one here in Sacramento where you can apply for the SS card. Since we are only 8 minutes from the SS office in West Sacramento, we went there first, but were told even though we live just across the river from the West Sacramento office, we would have to drive across town to the Sacramento Office because we live in Sacramento County. So, I drove as fast as I could across town and made it in to the Sacramento SS card office 2 minutes before they locked the doors. We waited about an hour before our number was called and Juan Carlos was issued a letter and told the SS card would arrive in the mail in 2 weeks. We were the last ones out of the building. I congratulated the SS employee for the first day back after the shutdown and she said they went off, they just shut down the card office and sent them next door to the benefits office. So much for the government shut down.

Next we need to head to DMV, but not sure if we have to wait for the card or if the letter and the EAD is all Juan Carlos needs to take the test for a DL.

I hope everyone on here has as easy and seamless journey as ours. I cannot wait to receive the green card !!

Received green card today with 10 year validity... but middle name is initialized.. is that normal..? my DL and SSN card has full name..

Congratulations everyone getting their Green Cards approved and those getting their interview dates!!

My EAD/AP application updated today. It says it has been sent out today. There isn't any USPS tracking number yet. I don't think there's any way for me to get it before my interview which is on Monday morning :-)
