Also, my EAD's status updated again to Card sent for Production. I guess they actually start card production after update #2? Anyways, I don't think I will get my EAD before my interview date (which is October 21st).

I got my EAD's status updated again to Card sent for Production as well today. Funny cause we both got the first notification the same day.

08/16/2013 - USCIS received my application
08/26/2013 - I received Biometrics appointment notice via mail
09/06/2013 - Biometrics Walk-in
09/17/2013 - Scheduled Biometrics
09/18/2013 - Received online notifications of I-485 application changed to Testing & Interview
10/09/2013 - EAD/AP in production
10/18/2013 - EAD/AP card mailed
10/21/2013 - EAD/AP card received

I just confirmed with a co-worker. He started working at our company without a SSN. He applied for it but he didn't get paid till he got the SSN and updated it in the company records.

So, you should be able to start working but won't probably get paid till you get a SSN. After you get it, you would get the pending salary(ies).

Hi Guys,

Just reached home. Here is the detailed interview experience.

Our interview was at 12:55 pm at SFO office. We reached 1 hour early and were let in around 12:30 pm. We checked in with the receptionist and were asked to sit in the waiting area. We were called in at 1:30 pm. The officer was very very friendly. He escorted us to his office and sworn us before letting us to sit.

He asked both our passports and DLs. Then made some notes from those, I am not sure what. Then he opened my file and asked me almost all the questions in the i485. Then he asked my wife where she works, and acknowledged that we were using our combined income for sponsorship. then he asked us if we had any other documents for him. I submitted Apt Lease, Insurance (Health, Life, Car), ATT phone bills, Savings account statements.

He also asked us if we had pictures. I showed him our wedding album and he looked at it and asked us who-is-who for some of them.

Thats it he said that he is approving us and will check for the visa number if available. Then he game me a print out of the approval letter.

Also, FYI all... I did not carry one single extra document other than what was mentioned in the interview letter.

Good Luck everyone.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have been granted permanent residence status. You are being processed for an alien registration card which should be mailed to you within 30 days...

Our Interview in San Francisco:

Dress: we wore colared shirts and slacks (no ties or jackets). We also carried a backpack with all of our documentation (we traveled on public transportation). We went alone, the two of us; no lawyer or translator.

We arrived 45 minutes early to 630 Sansome St, San Francisco. The guard saw our I-797C NOA appointment and IDs (state drivers licenses) and told us to return no earlier than 30 minutes prior to our appointment (pretty sternly), so we went to a nearby coffee shop.

We proceeded back to the lobby at exactly 30 minutes prior to our appointment (with I-797C in hand, the guard welcomed us without inspecting it or our IDs). Our bag went through a scanner, and we emptied our pockets/belts/etc (all metal except our wedding rings) before going through a body metal detector.

Although our appointment was scheduled to take place on the 1st floor, we were told to go to the 2nd floor ("all appointments are on the 2nd floor", someone shouted).

At the 2nd floor, we proceeded to the check-in counter. It took a few minutes for a staff member to arrive to help the people in front of us. When it was our turn to check-in, we surrendered our I-797C NOA appointment notice. She used it to match our names in her appointment calendar, stamped the notice and kept it (I told her it was a copy, and I had the original still, and she said it was fine and didn't care). She told us to wait in area #A. The floor was basically a waiting room/lobby with different sections (A, B, C, D, E, F), a number of TVs on the wall showing the news, bathrooms and a drinking fountain. People were called into office rooms away from the lobby.

We waited in the lobby for over 30 minutes, saw everyone who was there prior to us get called away, and finally we were called into our appointment (10 minutes after our appointment time).

The officer instructed us to put down our belongings and remain standing, where he asked us to swear to tell the truth before sitting. He asked to see our passports and drivers licenses and wrote down information.

He asked us if we had our EAD card, but we didn't receive it yet (it came in the mail while we were at the interview).

Then he went through the bunch of YES/NO questions required by law, directed to the intending immigrant.

He asked about our living situation: with who? How do we know our housemates? How many bedrooms? A general description of our house. And finally said, "so now that's out of the way, tell me your story".

We asked who should answer, and he said anyone, so proceeded to answer, mostly taking turns and sometimes talking together. Starting off with how we met, and the story of how we became a couple, and then through some of the following years. He then asked for photos. We brought out 400+ chronologically-ordered photos (printed only for this interview). He looked through most of them, noting that we had a lot of just the two of us, and that he's mostly interested in seeing us with friends and family. We had those types of pictures in there too (I explained that I have thousands of photos over the years, and only printed the ones with us in them).

He asked for details on the other people in the photos. He asked for a bit of context, and about various places we've traveled together to (in a casual, natural manor). After looking through half of the photos, he seemed satisfied, and soft of skimmed through the rest rather quickly. He asked about our wedding photos and who was present.

He asked which one of us was the organized one. =)

He proceeded to say "Congratulations!... you've been approved," and we had a happy moment of relief.

Then he asked us if we have any other documentation to give him. I said I have all of the originals with us, but he asked for only new documentation. I offered recent bank statements and copies of credit cards. He declined the credit cards, but took the top half of my bank statements (not really even looking at them).

He then gave us a form that has the title "I-485 Adjustment of Status Interview Results" with our Alien #, today's date, and his name with:

"Congratulations, your adjustment of status has been approved."

He said we should receive the card in 5-6 weeks, but with the government shutdown, things might be delayed, but he also said it's usually faster than 5-6 weeks anyway. He congratulated us again, and said in 2 years we would have to complete a process to make the green card permanent as we were married less than 2 years.

He escorted us out, the waiting area was empty (and TVs off). The interview lasted approximately 30 minutes.

On our way home, we received a text message stating from USCIS stating our I-485 status is now Card/Document Production.

Once home, we received our EAD/AP (combined) card!

~~A binder containing a copy of our original submission of I-130, I-485, I-765, I-143

I'm so happy for you guys!! Congratulations!!!
