One more problem I have because of this shutdown!

When I get EAD or GC, I'll need to change my last name on my SSN (now I have it with my maiden name). If I don't change last name on SSN I won't be able to get my DL with my new last name. And that's a bummer :(

im in the same boat but i cant evan apply for a SSN at all , i only have a ITIN number from IRS. Cant work with that.

the shutdown should end next week otherwise they will go into default and this will be bad for USA

The government shutdown and the default are too separate issues. They will probably fix the default issues, at least temporarily but the government shutdown? Who knows when that will end.

Hello ppl. Just received my EAD card. This comes just 3 days before my interview and they are going to take it back as well. Lol!

Me almost same..my ead card ..will get tomorrow. 10days before my interview....

Are you going to DMV for renew DL? is that possible to renew the DL without SSN?

I just made appointment for renew my DL on 10/22 in the morning then afternoon i go to interview.

My DL already EXP....couple days ago...

But I think DMV would need a SSN for DL. My DL also expired in the last week of September.

The strange thing... my EAD and L1b extension both got approved on the same day. I am gonna go on Monday to renew my DL.

But I think DMV would need a SSN for DL. My DL also expired in the last week of September.

The strange thing... my EAD and L1b extension both got approved on the same day. I am gonna go on Monday to renew my DL.

So strange both of apply approved same time....

But good thing is you have a ssn already :)

I had F1 visa before that can't get a ssn except some of people (working in school like that).:(

What do you mean by default issues? I thought it's the same reason for the govt shutdown.

What do you mean by default issues? I thought it's the same reason for the govt shutdown.

Nope. Two different issues

Default:

The US government spends more than it gets from taxes so it continually needs to borrow money to pay its bills. The government has a cap on how much money it is allowed to borrow. That limit is reached on October 17th and without a higher limit, they will not be able to borrow money to pay bills, including debt that comes due after October 17th.....if those are not paid then they are in default.

Shutdown:

The government makes a new budget or spending law every year beginning October 1st. No spending bills or budget were passed by Congress before October 1st,. This means that no government office have a budget in which to operate on.

These seem similar just because they are happening at nearly the same time. But the debt ceiling issue was the problem back in 2011 and will crop up every year or so.

Not to go to off thread, but no.

That said, I suspect that we will get a deal in the next week or so that ups the debt ceiling temporarily for a few months and a spending bill will be passed for this fiscal year opening the government once again. In two or three months we will have to deal with a debt ceiling battle.

That's good. Hope you can see your AP also on the EAD card, sometime they may not updated online.

Good Luck. Mine is still in Card Production and don't know when it can be mailed. Looking forward my interview on Nov' 7th.
