Without the ridiculous paranoia the NRA has and continues to feed and foster, there would have been no mass run on any guns. There was absolutely nothing rational about that run on guns. It was pure paranoia in action. And that paranoia has a single source.

The general population could give two hoots about the NRA. You have people who have never owned a gun running out to by one. Thank our President. His tough talk backfired. He didn't handle the issue properly at all.

If Obama said they were about to ban CRT televisions, would anyone care?

Yes. They care that he wants to ban certain light bulbs and toilets. If he had gone out to announce a ban CRT TVs, I could sold my old set to some stupid right wing freak on e-bay rather than finding myself having to dump it in the trash.

Not everything coming from the NRA comes out of wayne lapierre's mouth or commercials with the NRA logo on it. They work behind the scenes with contributions mostly.

I am quite certain that the majority of these guns went into homes that already have a dozen or more. We've established earlier that the 300 million guns in this country are concentrated among a small portion of the population. There's no reason to believe that the additional firearms sold in the wake of Newtown distribute any differently than the hundreds of millions already out there.

Since this is all so easy to solve according to some, why hasn't one politician come forward and said that he/she will work to toughen gun laws and get them off the street? Why hasn't one come forward promising to work toward repealing the Second Amendment? Simple, it would be political suicide. Even the liberals would never run on such an agenda. And since the Republicans and conservatives are all gun lovers, except Patriot of course, they aren't going to propose any such legislation. The first step is to elect a Congress that will change the Constitution. That's the beauty of our government.

Pakistan is basically a war zone, there are no gun or weapons restrictions there. It's not a fair comparison to the US.

My comparison to Pakistan was simply an example of how easy it is to make your own guns. If a group of people that still haven't mastered indoor plumbing can do it, I'd say it would be pretty easy to do here.

Why is it that you are so angry at the NRA and people that have more right leaning views ( enough to constantly call them derogatory names), yet the groups, like the NRA, that you attack are by a vast majority law abiding, honest people that just want to work, have a family and be left alone.

Your anger should be directed at the young minority males that are committing the vast overall majority of the crime, you detest so much. It's at a rate of over 90% in many cities.

If we fixed that problem, and it's many causes, the Gun crime rate would drop by well over half. Far bigger gains than an assault weapon ban, which would have no measurable affect on gun crime.

Seems to me everybody wants to talk about every thing but the real problem. Can you imagine if the black community devoted as much energy to staying in school, babies not having babies, taking back their neighborhoods, Daddies being fathers and pulling up their pants as they do TM.

I thought about 45% of the households in the country owned at least one gun. That's hardly a small portion. Check to see if the applications for concealed carry went up after Sandy Hook.

Down to 30%, as I posted earlier. The number of gun owners is declining as a percentage of the population, yet the number of guns keeps going up. That tells me America is being held hostage by the NRA and the gun nutters.

Newtown Reports Surge in Gun Permit Applications Since December

Perhaps counter-intuitively, since 14Dec, the pace of gun permit applications in Newtown has risen 2.4 times relative to its historical annual pace.

And family members are pushing for stricter gun control legislation.

Of course they are. If their family members were killed by a roof collapse, they would be pushing for stricter building codes.

Yep. Just posting the 'other side' to the "See? Even Newtown wants more guns" argument.
