Curtail these criminal element not the law abiding citizens with introduction of stupid laws that restrict the magazine size or ban a weapon just based on looks or how a handle is placed.

Sounds like the sooner we start the better. The more guns we add will likely increase your year calculation. Hell if society can function with existing guns for another 500 years, why are we making more?

Karee has already posted the answer. Guns and ammo have been in limited supply since Sandy Hook and all the talk of tighter regulation and assault weapon bans. People went on a feeding frenzy.

Criminals and sickos love to have guns. That demand will always be there. The only way you decrease the amount of sickos and criminals with guns is by reducing the supply. Surely you are not suggesting that we should make sure that it is easy and convenient for them to get their hands on firearms?

It will? You are old enough to remember the fuel embargos of the 70's, the demand for fuel was very high, but the supply was limited and restricted. You got gas when you were told you could get gas, and if you could afford it, not when you wanted it.

Without the ridiculous paranoia the NRA has and continues to feed and foster, there would have been no mass run on any guns. There was absolutely nothing rational about that run on guns. It was pure paranoia in action. And that paranoia has a single source.

There will always be the criminal element that desires these weapons, nothing will change that. But that doesn't mean we just throw our arms up in the air and surrender.

When the general population has no guns that is exactly what will happen, people will put their hands over their heads and do as they are told.
