it is funny to see how people like to bash Brazil...

I 've been here for almost 2 months and just the last Saturday some thieves tried to get in our apartment while we were sleeping...

They tried to open the bedroom's window, broke it and then I heard they were trying to come in...

Something like that NEVER happened to me in Brazil in my 31 years of life there

Just want to say and pray that God keeps you safe and blesses you with a wonderful, full and rich life.

I love my country and I love my city, but I have been robbed, twice, since I have moved to Sao Paulo and I still love it.

I don't think I will any safer in NYC to be honest.

But I think that Rio during the night is a little more creepy than SP. And I was having a beer on the beach at night one day with alex in Rio (Totally her idea, I wouldn't be insane to go to the beach with any ammount of money after 10) and we were speaking english to each other (at least I was trying) and then two kids showed up and asked for money, reason why I don't like copacabana so much, and I said I didn't have any. When they realized we weren't speaking portuguese, they started talking to each other plotting to steal our cigarretes and our lighters. Then I said some curse words ("Vai roubar o c* da sua mãe, filho da puta") and they went away.

i don't think nyc would be any safer either. but that about the kids plotting to steal your cigs and lighters, that's a good one. you ran into some major criminals there.

What makes you say that? NYC is one of the safest cities in the world (relative to its size.)

It went through a bad patch in the '80s but since then the city has definitely cleaned up its act

and restored safety. Some neighbourhoods are better than others but most are safe.

That means that I already feel safe here. And I read about that a lot. But SP is already perfect for me.

Will SP and Rio always hold grudges against each other? I love Rio and I also loved São Paulo when I went to visit, but I must say São Paulo might be a little too big and with too much traffic for my taste. If I could choose I'd live in the South.
