I recently got married to my gf who is permanent resident of USA. She is currently doing her under grad studies, two more years left.

Can she apply for my F2A even without any jobs? She lives in college hostel while her dad pays for her tuition and accommodation.

My sister recently got work permit in USA and has permanent 70k salary job. Can she help us in any way?

Yes, your wife can petition you. Your sister can be join sponsor; ie she'd also fill a I-864 when the time comes.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

The Joint Sponsor must be a US citizen or an LPR.

A person with a work visa is neither a US citizen or LPR. This person cannot be a Joint Sponsor.

OP says his sister just got her "work permit." We don't know what means.

OP - what is your sister's legal status in the US?

unless her sister is a LPR or a USC, then no, she cannot be the joint sponsor.

the person has to be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident

Thank you all for the kind reply. She had recently filed for PR on asylum basis and she was approved(one month back). I don't think she is LPR yet. I mean she just got her work permit this month only.

Based on your kind advice I conclude that my wife can't sponsor me. Does the sponsor need to be my relative or can any US citizen or LPR can sponsor me?

Check with your sister how long it usually takes to get a greencard in her situation. You will only need to present the I-864 financial support docs at NVC stage- you haven't filed yet, so that is at leats 6 months away.....

Your sister has an AP/EAD card which allows her to be in the US and work in the US while her asylum case is being considered.

Since she is neither an LPR or a USC, she cannot help with your I-864 Affidavit of Support.

It may take years for her case to be completed.

If she becomes an LPR, then she can be your Joint Sponsor.
