I recently found this forum and have been reviewing everything the past couple of days. As we are all now painfully aware immigration is a complicated and slow process. I am hoping to meet people who have sponsored a Brazilian woman for a K1 visa to share their experiences with us and to get some feedback we are on track with our application process.

I filed the K1 November 1st of 2012 for a Brazilian girl who is living in Brazil. I am a US Citizen. We finally got the NOA2 on July 1st of 2013, which was 8 months of silence except we had one Request for Evidence (RFE) which was sent back to them the next day. I think the RFE cost us about 2 - 3 weeks. They requested a copy of my divorce certificate. I sent copies of my divorce decree, but what they actually require is a copy of the divorce certificate.

I signed up on the US Citizens and Immigration Services USCIS website for automated email alerts, but unfortunately we never received any updates or communications electronically. The USCIS website is at:

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard.do

I have read some posts on this site that sometimes this feature works and sometimes it doesn't. I only mention it here in case someone new is starting out and wants to sign up for this feature.

On July 29th my fiancé who still resides in Brazil received an invitation letter for the interview in Rio De Janeiro. The interview is September 10th, so still another 40 days or so to wait. The interview is obviously a huge milestone in the process and we were thrilled to have finally received the letter. However, since the immigration process is so dark and complicated we have a general sense of doubt and fear that we may be missing something in order to be properly prepared for the interview.

We have scheduled the medical exam in Rio for September 9th. We called and spoke to the physician and they indicated they do a number of these exams on a daily basis and are very familiar with the process. We scheduled the medical exam with :

Dr. Joaquim Duarte
R. México, 21/1901 Centro / Castelo 20031-144
Rio De Janeiro RJ Brazil
Tel:(21)2533-1311

The physician indicated they would fax the results to the US Consulate Generals office at the completion of the exam.

I have seen a lot of references to receiving Packet 3 and Packet 4 from the Consulate. I have also read where the Consulate in Rio no longer sends out Packet 3. We have not received Packet 3. The invitation letter for the interview has a cryptic sentence at the bottom saying that Packet 4 is enclosed, however there was nothing enclosed with the letter which is part of what is fueling our anxiety. The only thing in the letter was the letter itself (1 page) and a 1 page cover letter in English explaining the letter.

We have also scheduled a series of vaccinations:

•Hepatitis A
•Hepatitis B
•Influenza
•Influenza type b (Hib)
•Measles
•Meningococcal
•Mumps
•Pneumococcal
•Pertussis
•Polio
•Rotavirus
•Rubella
•Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
•Varicella

She is getting the 5 vaccinations she is missing from the above list next week. The USCIS website indicates that the Physician will confirm her vaccination record as part of their exam.

My finance is also in the process of obtaining a report from the local Brazilian police to prove she has no criminal activity.

Since the interview is scheduled for 40 days from now (September 10) and we have not received Packet 3 or Packet 4 ... do we need to prepare / bring any other documentation to the interview other than the Medical Exam and the Police Report?

It would be really nice to meet some people who have gone through the K1 process in Rio to share their experience with.

Thanks in Advance!!
