Connecticut has "may issue" concealed carry but has always issued permits to people who are not otherwise disqualified, making it in effect, a "shall issue" state.

The troubling thing to me is that a person requires state authorization prior to purchasing a firearm. Though such authorization, so far, has not been unreasonably withheld it in CT is unacceptable in my opinion. I would never live there under those circumstances. That they have a count of authorized sales is frightening. No one in government should know this.

In any case, I guess CT residents are realizing that the plan to "call someone to bring a gun" has its flaws. Every time there is a crime there are three parties involved...the criminal, the victim and the Police. The Police are always the last ones to arrive. Arming potential victims, reduces potential victims and reduces crime

I think also in the wake of the well publicized GZ trial (thank you racists and hoplophobes, because otherwise no one would have heard of GZ or TM, that trial was a huge Win-Win for the NRA) there are going to be increases in CC licenses nationwide. A lot of people realize that a cell phone to call people with guns doesn't work too well. As in GZs case, he tried to call police but the criminal doesn't wait until the police arrive to attack.

Ultimately, even people who abdicate their responsibility for the protection of their families to strangers they plan to call on the phone, will benefit as the increase in concealed carry licensees will reduce crime for them also. This is the benefit of CC. More potentially armed persons increases risk for criminals, reduces crime.
