It takes longer as a K1 to actually get the green card.

I do not agree that it should take less time to get the visa, but it is what it is.

However all K1 will have to ROC while only those married for less than 2 years have to do so. In reality the K1 also costs more which means more money in the USCIS pockets. It could be as simple as that, or as complicated as it takes more time to go through a spousal petition vs "have you met in the last 2 years?" fiancé petition.

My husband, who works for the government, suggested that if the processing time is supposed to be 6 months, then to give them the time they need. He said nothing good comes out of bugging the government before their allotted time is up. He was fully willing to do everything possible to get the petition approved if nothing had happened by the 6 month timeline. As a USAF vet, and current govt employee, I follow his discretion in this, and suggest the same to others. You can call whenever you want. I've seen problems come from people who call all the time, but maybe the same problems would have existed anyhow. Who knows?

Remember it takes about 2 months for the files to be sent to the local office. After that the timeline varies GREATLY depending on how fast that local office is. East coast is generally slower, Atlanta is a snail's pace (in fact I bet a snail could crawl through a nigerian petition faster than Atlanta can work on them) but the west coast seems to be an average of 4-5 months. Some local offices like to call the petitioner in (San Diego for example) and others require the beneficiary's birth certificate photocopy. The USCIS is working on a new manual to replace all the old ones, but haven't yet finished it. The USCIS was hoping that making the new office in KS would eliminate the need to send to local offices but it looks like majority are still sent out. It would be nice to move back to the old days of when I-130s were adjudicated at a service center so that people could expect a reasonable order in which petitions were approved.

Filed: Timeline

As was mentioned by others the I-130 takes a lot longer because once you are in USA you will get your green card in about 1 week. My ex-wife's I-130 took 14 months total until visa in hand, she was from Colombia so I guess they wanted to be sure her family wasn't part of a drug cartel rofl.gif

That marriage did not work out due to her alcoholism that she hid from me and she was also bipolar devil.gif

So now I am in K1 process with Filipina who is normal and does not drink good.gif

When I filed our I-129F in October 2012 the processing time to NOAA2 was 5 months then in March 2013 I observed on the USCIS processing times were changed to 7 1/2 months. They have processing time graph you can look at for every type of visa petition and you will observe the number of visa petitions processed each month changes a lot over the course of 1 year. Sometimes it appears over 1,000 are processed in 1 month and other times a couple hundred. I am still confused why some couples that applied for their K1 4 months after we applied already had interview and visa in hand and we will have interview in 2 weeks.

Best of luck I am sure it will go well we all just have to wait.

PS I am also British citizen as my parents were from Lancaster and were naturalized in USA in 1960 and I was born in Canada on their way to America.

Takes about 4-8 weeks to get the actual green card, BUT you have the endorsed visa in the passport which acts as a temporary green card for a year, so really you get a green card immediately upon entry. :)
