Hi,

I have an interview date for Jan 4. As happy as I am, this is in the middle of our skiing vacation. Are there experiences in the risks and delays involved in rescheduling? Can one get it just a few days later? I also vaguely remember posts where people rescheduled but were then told they did not show up, but cannot find that anymore.

Any input appreciated.

Thanks a lot

The main risk is that they may reschedule it for 6 months later. However there's always a chance that USCIS might not "get the memo" that you rescheduled and assume you've abandoned your AOS when you don't show up for your original interview.

Personally I would skip the skiing holiday and do the AOS.

reschedule your vacation, and go to your interview. there is simply too much riding on this interview to take any chances of USCIS thinking you've abandoned your petition. congratulations on having an interview date!

A few people who have tried to reschedule their interview have ended up with a letter of denial just a few weeks later because the request for another appointment got lost in the system and USCIS assumed they had abandoned their AOS...

Change your vacation plans... just think of all the years you will have to go skiing... if you dont show up for your interview you will have to start at the begining again all for what?? to play on snow...

HI Flo,

I would not risk it. What is more important, the GC or the skiing vacation? Think about it.

This is something I was seriously considering last summer. My wife and I were working abroad and felt it would be easier to reschedule than take time off and fly half way around the globe at considerable expense just for a couple of days. After a month waying up the pros and cons I thought the risk was too great (mainly from advice I'd read here) so I made the journey. It was a long expensive weekend that ultimately proved worthwhile.

A friend of my wife's rescheduled her interview because her husband went into the military, I have no idea why he would sign up for the armed services before his wife received her green card! But anyway...he did and she recsheduled her appointment for some time after his basic training. She received a denial letter in the mail 3 weeks after her intial appointment date. I think this is a no brainer....... Go to the interview, the snow will still be there later.

Give it at least the importance you would give a summons for jury duty. When the government calls you to appear, show up unless you have a VERY good reason not to. Vacations can be rebooked. Denied cases cause much more problems.

When I got my wife's interview notice, we immiediately informed our employers. We didn't want to risk anythig.

Once you have the green card you can reschedule your ski vacation for another location, like the Alps...

January 4 for skiing? Here in Colorado the best months are February and March - only the very young and/or hardy ski in January (I used to when I was young). So, where is it you had this vacation planned? If in Colorado (or Utah) - better to do it in February or March - the best skiing is during those months. Good Luck ... and go for the double diamonds! Yeah

End the vacation early or reschedule.
