Wait for the Case Number, you will get the case number on the packet 3 (if you are the beneficiary), but most people here called NVC to get the number (my fiancé didn't call cuz he was soo sure that we will get the number and he's right)..Once you get it you can start complete the requirements they ask, the requirements are listed in packet 3 such as medical exam, affidavit of suppor, translating, etc.

Just to clarify - packet 3?

Who recieves that? I assume they mail it to me here in the US not to her in Colombia.

Also police background check - a bit confused on some postings i have read, do we both need them are just her?

Packet 3 is information the US embassy or consulate needs from the beneficiary. They will likely email or mail it to her in Columbia. I suggest going to your regional forum and asking the specifics of K1 for that embassy as it can differ a little. :)

I called earlier to get my case number. Our NOA2 was July 9th. The polite, but business-like, guy on the phone said to give them 8 weeks before expecting it. Hopefully he's just way overestimating in the desire to stop folks from calling.. but I've decided that for my sanity I won't check again til September. November will mark one year apart and I really hope we will be together again before that time. The silver lining to me is even if we're not, at least we'll have a day in mind by then!
