I'm confused!!! So I will be returning to the states with my husband but once we arrive to the airport but before we go through immigration they always have two lines, one line is for US citizens and residents and the other is for tourist and visa holders. So my question is can I go with my husband to the tourist/visa holder line or do we have to part ways when we go through immigration? Or can he come with me to the US citizen line? I want to be with my husband when he goes through immigration. :) lol

Thanks for your response in advance!

I'm sure they'll let you in the same line as you're both married and all. If not, you'll just have to go by yourself through the citizen line.

what I have seen when I was traveling was the spouse went with the usc in that line and both parties went thru together.

They were told ther had to go to another room and talk to someone else, but the husband and wife was not seperated at all.

Thank you for all the information you posted it is soooo much help, for real, even my case worker can not spill out half the info you just gave us...My lawyer sent in my packet on 9/18/13. So, I am waiting, I will keep things posted, I am really interested to see how long this will take becuase my husband is in Guatemala. And there isn't that many cases for his country posted on here that are recent. In addition to that, they are mostly k-1 filers and I am a IR-1/CR-1 filer, and I also still have to do his i-601 after we get the turn down at the embassy. I am just hoping this part wont take soo long.

Any how thank you again for making this process make more sense!

It used to just take about 2 weeks to review packages, but with the new DS-260 policy that took effect at the beginning of the month, NVC is going through a backlog at the moment. Operators are now saying 30 business days to review packages (instead of the previous 20 business days). So, I'm thinking, unfortunately, your packages won't be reviewed until the beginning of October some time.

Sucks about not having a lot of other people on VJ from the same country, as well as filing for the same visa. It's especially important that you keep your timeline as updated as possible for future Guatemalans to help them out.

That is a definate will do...thank you again! And I think my lawyer told me 20 days to..But do you know once it is reviewed will they call for the interview, then send the package to the guatemalan embasssy, See that is the part I am confused about. ?? Or does the package stay here in the U.S.?? I was worried that it had to go to Guatemala and they were the ones that scheduled my husbands interview, which if it goes that way, then it will take longer. Thanks again!

I was worried that it had to go to Guatemala and they were the ones that scheduled my husbands interview, which if it goes that way, then it will take longer. Thanks again!

Here's the process: Once both packages are reviewed and accepted, then the case is completed. It's put into a queue (at NVC) for an interview date to be scheduled. No one calls you. Once an interview date is assigned, NVC will email both the petitioner and beneficiary (if you have a lawyer, them as well) that will detail the interview date and time, as well as what documents to bring. Then, typically a day or two after the interview is assigned, NVC ships out the case to the consulate/embassy.

Time frames vary based on consulate/embassy on how long it is (both from case complete to the interview date being scheduled, as well as the actual interview date). And if there's not a lot of other Guatemalans, then it'll be hard for you to get an estimate. The typical global average though is about 2 months from case complete date to interview date, with it only taking a few weeks to get the date assigned after case complete.

Hope that helps!

Yup, haha ;)

And yeah, just a lot of waiting now for NVC to review stuff. If your lawyer allows it (I know some are strict), you can start calling NVC next week and every day or so afterwards to see if there's been any update on your case.
