This is a story about getting our NBI clearances and a lesson learned. REMEMBER to get your NBI Clearance early!

Knowing that we have to get a NBIC (NBI Clearance) and since her two children are out of school (this took place about 2 months ago) she took a day to get on the bus and travel 6 hours roundtrip to the NBI office for her area. She gets to the NBI office and goes through the process and her two children pass but she doesn't...she has a hit! So they tell her to wait for the investigation some 2-3 weeks. That time goes by to 4 weeks later they finally have her case back and they tell her to come to Y-City for processing. She is thinking that she is getting a CLEAN NBI but to her surprise, once she is there, she has a warrant out for an open case from 2003 at the court in X-City. She see the results that she is WANTED and gets so nervous. They tell her that she needs to look into it at the local police/courthouse to rectify the outstanding warrant. So back on the bus home, 3 hours she is sitting and thinking what did I do to cause this? What did my X-Husband do that may have caused this situation. So many thoughts going through her head. When I heard the story from her I was compassionate to her for what she is going through. That was on Friday, so naturally she couldn’t do anything till Monday, thusly she had the whole weekend to think about it. Of course, having a sense of humor, I proceeded to tease her about going to jail for her “crime”. One of things I love about her is her humor, so she laughed at my remark but I know inside she is worried.

She has an older brother who lives in the X-City, and is the body guard to the Mayor of that city and so she calls her brother and tells him what is going on. He told her that first thing Monday morning he would look into it. So, Monday comes and her brother makes a call to the Police Chief and explains the situation. The PC said he would look into it. Later in the day my fiancée gets a call from her brother and he says that there is nothing there and the case number that she gave to him (NBIC gave her the case number) was not even in the series of numbers that they use.

Well, she calls back to the NBI and states what she has found out and what should she do. NBI told her that she needs to go to the court house in her city and see if she can find out any additional information concerning that case number. My fiancée has a friend that works in the courthouse in her town and her friend was able to do the research and she found nothing. I had anticipated that this would happen and I told her to make sure she gets something in writing stating that fact because she will need it for the NBI if not for her own records.

Upon arriving back home with that document in hand and the information from her brother she called the NBI again and they stated that they would need documentation stating that there were no open or pending cases for her in either locations, hometown or X-city. She called her brother and explained what was needed and he would get to it the next day since it was too late to do anything that afternoon.

The next day, early she gets a call from her brother saying that he has the document and they agree that he should ask the bus driver of the next bus leaving X-city for her city if he would hand carry it and she would meet the bus when it arrived in her hometown. Thusly, that is what she did, she met the bus (brother gave the driver 50 pesos). That was yesterday.

Now she has both documents clearing her name and so today comes and she gets on the bus to travels to the NBI office to hand over the documents. Once there she waits her turn and when she finally meets with an investigator he takes the documents and they review and approve that they have everything to clear her NBIC and issue the document stating the same.

She is so relieved. She waits 2 hours for the document to be processed and signed. She receives the document and then off to the bus for the return trip home. I was happy to hear it was an AC bus that she used for her travels today.

We just talked on Skype a while ago and she is so happy to have the LAST document in her hands for the interview in Sept. The last item is to get pictures taken so she has extra for each of the next steps.

So a word of encouragement to others, start early to get your documents, you don’t know what delays you will run into as you secure your documents. Also, be careful of your dates as some documents are only good for a certain period of time. Some a year others only 6 months. So be aware.
