Sending packet 3 checklist before police certificate arrives (it's being processed)

Hi fellow VJ'ers

I dropped by my local police station to get the police certificate done, but due to some staff on vacation, etc, they told me it would take 3-4 weeks (I thought it would be a week or 2 max!)

The Vancouver consulate has our other part of Packet 3, they are just waiting for our checklist in order to send us Packet 4.

Can I send the checklist in and check off the box for the Police Certificate (I KNOW it will come back clean), as it is on it's way, in order to speed things up? Would they know I sent it before actually have the police certificate?

Have you checked with the Commissionaires? It was cheaper than the Lethbridge Police and it came back in two business days.

Which police certificate is required for Canadian beneficiaries?

I'm from BC and I went to the local RCMP station in the area I live in and they issued me a police certificate in 15 minutes.

I'm worried now if that's not the right police certificate for US immigrant visa application seeing that OP's police cert is going to take 3-4 weeks!

It has to search the Canadian Police Information Centre, which I don't believe the RCMP one does. I could be wrong though.

In places where there is a local police force (like Calgary) the RCMP don’t do the CPIC searches, but they will for the smaller places where RCMP are the local police force. The Commissionaires are also able issue certificates where they have offices.

The key is that the certificate indicates that the National Database or CPIC has been searched. If you’ve changed your name the certificate should show all names or have a print screen of some sort showing the search terms with all of the names listed.

Darn. I should have just driven out of town to do it! Think the checklist is ok to send though, as it is on its way? I don't want to give ANY reason for an RFE (or the equivalent)

The driving out of town thing doesn’t normally work either. Usually you have to reside where you get your check done. I saw you were YYC so I offered up the Commissionaires as an alternative albeit too late in your case.

I haven’t read much on Vancouver at all. I know Montréal is hit and miss on getting them to open the mail in the mailroom for adding stuff. Is there a Vancouver K-1 thread that may have the info buried in it?
