Address question

I am planning on filing the first packet for DCF and then flying back to the States. My reason surrounds the fact that I have only been marginally employed here for the past near 3 years and I need to go home and get a real job ASAP. I have an excellent co-sponsor, but obviously, still, I need to prove that I can work.

My husband can't afford this apartment on his own and he will have to move as soon as I leave. I will be moving to the US obviously. However, we want to file before I leave. How do we put our addresses on the form? Do we put our present address and petition to change later or what?

Wacken,

First make sure that you can DCF while not living in Germany - I am not sure of the regulations, but in Canada both the USC and the spouse have to be legal residents.

As far as the address, I would file with the one you have now, and later give the change of address. However, my experience is in Canada - DO check with the US Consulate General who would process your case and best of luck.

I am a legal PR of Germany and have been for over two years. I don't think that would be a problem. I have read that lots of people file and leave the country partway through the process. I just wanted to know how that worked with the addresses on the first form. Neither one of us will be living in the same place after we file the first forms.

hi Wacken, good to see things are on the move!

Do you have a permanent mailing addy you can use in Germany? Parents? Post office box? Business/job?

The residence addresses can be altered at the interview if necessary; the most important thing is to have a place you can get mail from reliably.

Same for the US, btw.

Side note: For DCF cases, the USC petitioner must be in the foreign country to file the I-130. They do not need to be there for the visa interview.

This is what Wacken is proposing.

Hmm, I didn't even think of the PO box, but I think in this situation, that would be best. What is happening is:

*I file I-130 in late Feb - early March.

*I leave for the US in mid-March.

*Husband moves into another apartment April 1st.

PO box addresses are allowed, right?

Sure they are. We didn't even get home delivery in our village & were lucky to have a box at all. They do deliver to general delivery there, but you have to go down every morning and be elbowed by all the old folk (with some *rankin'* BO!) who consider mail call their duty in life.

It was always hysterical.. the postman would read out someone's name from the envelope and then there'd be about 5 minutes discussing where that person was, and who would take responsibility to take their letter to them and when ARE they going to be back, anyway etc etc

And then call the next name... And all the while you SEE your airpost letter down the stack and can't WAIT to get your mitts on it!

Hehe, I have never heard of anything like that before, but it is entertaining to hear you tell about it.

No, I am afraid here in Germany, there is just a giant room of steel PO boxes. No gossipy old people delievering my mail to me. :/

:P

Thanks for your help!

You know, I didn't really want to seem butting in on this, but if you have a sufficient Joint Sponsor and the two of you are employable, I wonder if the I-864 is enough reason for you to have to go back to the US ahead. There might be other good reasons that this is the best thing for the family, but I just read your siggy and saw your feelings there. :)
