Birth Certificate and Passport Etc. Have Different Age

As most of you probably know, lots of folks in India do not have a birth certificate, and for this reason's people's school records are used to show their age. My fiancee (soon wife), though, does have her birth certificate, but it does not match her school records. Long stroy short, she is a gifted woman and as a girl her parents wanted to give her a head start, so they lied about her age to get her into school 1 year early. Thus according to her birth certificate she is 25 (26 in September) but according to everything else (including her passport) she is 26 (27 next month). What should we put for her age on the G-325A ? What documents should she give? Should she get a new passport? Please advise. Thanks!

Not true. People do have their birth certificate as registration of birth is mandatory in India and is done right when the child is born. My birth certifacate was issued on the same day I was born with "Name" column left blank which was filled later. Same thing with my brothers, sisters, cousins etc....

The reason you are not getting any replies is because this is a very rare situation and not may people have two "birth" dates.

You can send a letter with your documents explaining them why the two dates are different or you can consult an attorney and he may be able to guide you..

Here's what I suggest

1. Don't worry about school records, use Birth Certificate. If it's in Hindi (or another regional language) have it translated into English and notarized that it is true copy

2. Get new passport that reflects age that is shown in Birth Certificate

How soon are you going to get married? If you get married soon, then ask your wife to get new passport after marriage, which reflects age shown in Birth Certificate and in passport, list you as Spouse.

I agree lot many folks in India have discrepancies in the birth certificate.Though mandatory,still lot of them register it late..My sister had a similar issue.Though it can take time and money as well.Here is what I suggest.;

1)If the DOB is same in the rest of the documents except the birth certificate,then forget your original Birth certificate.Use the birth date as in the rest of the secondary evidences.

2)Surrender the original birth certificate,to the local municipal corporation submitting an affidavit from both parents or a close relative,confirming the birth and that the correct birth date is as in the school record.You will perhaps require a certificate from the doctor etc for that or else show home delivery.

3)you will be issued a new birth certificate with the same date as in other records.

Hope this helps
