Ukrainian K-2 travelling using mom's passport

Hello all, I know this topic has come up before on this board. The concensus is that Ukrainian children (K-2) under the age of 18 can travel with mom (K-1) to the United States using mom's passport. But I was a little worried when my fiancee showed me the passport page where her son's name was added. It is simply her son's name and date of birth in English and Ukrainian hand-written on a page entitled "Special Notes". There is a signature and some kind of official seal. There is nothing else, no photo of the child. Is that all that is required for a child to travel overseas? Is US Immigration going to let a child enter the US just because his name is handwritten to the passport?

It just makes me wonder if I should ask my fiancee to apply for the 3-year travel document for her son. Does anyone know how long it would take in Ukraine to apply for such document? Thanks in advance!

I'll take a look tonight at my mom's old passport, as I was a child when we immigrated and didn't have my own and see how I'm written in there. I think it just has my name in Ukrainian, not in English, but it's printed, not handwritten. I don't remember if it has my photo.

The visa on the child has to be put into a passport.

As to 'which passport' - I be stumped.

However, it sorta makes sense to me for the child to have a passport, and the visa on the child put into the child's passport.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The actual K-1 visa itself will have your financee's photo on it and the separate K-2 visa will have the child's photo. Both of these official US government documents are attached to the passport after the interview.

Found this link:

http://dpsu.gov.ua/en/activities/skipping/skipping_15.htm

It says children older than 5 should have their photo glued in to the parent's passport. A 3 year travel document is only required if child's info is not in the parent's passport.

Ukraine changes their procedures sometimes. Alla's passport had BOTH the boys in it as you describe but there was a photo of each. While we were waiting the oldest boy turned 18 and we got him his own passport. Not an issue for him.

The younger one had his visa issued and placed in Alla's passport so in addition to the listing you describe, the child WILL get his own visa and it will be placed in the mother's passport.

Ukrainians under age 18 cannot get a "Zagranpassport! (International passport) and are listed in their parents passport untial age 18. The exact procedure of listing them can vary. I would say "no worries"

You CAN get a 3 year travel document. We did that for our younger son sohe could travel without Alla but before he turned 18. He is 18 as of this year and recently received his own Ukrainian passport (he is also a US citizen now and has a US passport)

To get the 3 year travel document in MOST Oblasti can be done in a few days by paying an extra fee. The normal turn-around is 2-4 weeks. You can get it as soon as "next day" in most Oblasti. If the child is old enough to travel by himself, you could go ahead and do that. Our youngest was 13 when he came and I wish we had just done it right off. But if you do no thave time, then just go with what you have.

In Ukraine the child's visa will be placed in the parents passport.

I was not aware of the "over 5 rule" for the photo. Both our children were over age 5 when they were added and both had photos in Alla's passport.

Again, you have what Ukraine issued and the child can travel using that passport. The visa with photo will be placed in the parents passport

Thanks everyone for your inputs!! I really appreciate it.

If the child is now over age 5, she can get a passport photo made, return to the passport office and have the child's photo added to her passport.
