You weren't specific when you said "joe citizen", but I would be inclined to say yes, better than most folks who own firearms.

May be true for your circle of friends, but I wouldn't think that would be the case for the majority of folks.

The firearms owners I know have, separately, illegally fired a "warning shot" in the middle of a very populated (and crime sensitive) area just to scare off a couple of teenaged bullies, repeatedly disregarded common-sense firearms safety, and left a loaded handgun where their 5-year-old son could get it (resulting in him shooting and killing his father).

Your experiences and mine are anecdotal, though.
