I think the chances of getting a constitutional amendment modifying the 2nd amendment has about a 0 percent chance of getting ratified by 75% of the states.

You are correct, unfortunately.

Thing is, I don't know if it needs to be modified. I don't think there's a problem with the right to keep and bear arms. But when it comes to that "infringement" word in there, people seem to think that means that those arms they keep and bear should have absolutely no rules placed upon them.

Do per capita rates equal more?

I'm curious to see the actual numbers. Stands to reason that California would have more gun crime than Rhode Island.

Yep. Like I was saying, I think that has more to do with a higher percentage of people living in poverty in California than they do in Rhode Island.

My feeling is that if you try to solve the poverty issues in this country, alot of the other stuff will take care of itself, and there will be no need for any additional laws.

Passing more laws to restrict gun ownership is a real chicken$hit way of trying to fix the gun violence problem. So is passing laws that promote more gun ownership. This gun debate is a symptom of a much larger problem.

Take out New O and LA is low.

we may be on to a trend

Maybe something besides guns could be the root cause

Why does Chi town have very restrictive gun laws , but is the gun murder capital of the nation. Surely all those extra laws cured the problem

Chicago is not even in the top ten, actually. It's just become the punching bag from the media lately.

Well of course. The most populated states will always come out on top.

You can use the Wiki page to sort by any column.

So my post about states with restrictive laws having worse violence is false how?

So we're not taking population into account? That.. doesn't make sense.

Shouldnt laws work regardless of population?

So you think California and Rhode Island should have the same amount of crime, if "laws work"?

California should have less because of their laws.

Is there a source for this? I've tried, but finding the list of cities seems more difficult than a list of states.

Shouldn't Louisiana also have less because of their laws?

Louisiana doesnt have strict laws like California.

Like I was saying, it seems having more or less firearm restrictions, has little to do with violent crime rates.

Agreed. I'm confused as to what slim is attempting to argue.

Louisiana doesnt have strict laws like California.

You are correct. Louisiana has very lax gun laws and still very high gun violence.

So... what?

I guess it matters if your the potential victim of a violent crime and whether or not you have a gun to defend yourself. On that level, I guess it makes people safer. Although, I've seen Mr. BD post some stats about people being more likely to die from accidentally shooting themselves, rather than saving themselves from a violent criminal when firearms are involved. Granted they came from Mr. BD, so he could have gotten them from the secondamendmentsucks.com website. I never really looked at the stats personally.

As soon as I figure out the word combination I used in Google search yesterday that allowed me to find the article I have in mind, I will give you the link. I've found a couple others so far that deal with individual cities (as opposed to states), but their sources aren't as solid (IMO) as the article I read yesterday (and am now having difficulty finding).
