When was the last time someone used a vehicle as a murder weapon?

People intentionally kill each other with guns every day. When was the last time someone intentionally killed another person or a mass of people with their car?

There are some states (I think 10, last I read) where gun deaths actually outnumber motor vehicle accident deaths.

A study suggested that by 2015, that would be a national statistical truth.

If people would stop committing crimes, they wouldn't end up shot and killed for it. idea9dv.gif

If only people committing crimes were the people getting shot and killed, there wouldn't be much of an issue.

Who is getting shot and killed?

How many vehicular homicides are there? (Remember to include manslaughter.)

Let's crunch the numbers!

Plenty of people are getting shot and killed. Are you not paying attention?

How many intentional car deaths do you think there are?

If we really want to compare guns and cars, though.. let's do it. Since some people apparently believe they are both equally dangerous, maybe we should treat guns the way we treat cars?

You should have to pass a proficiency test in order to get a license to carry a gun. And that license must be renewed on a regular basis.

Purchase gun insurance.

An annual registration fee per gun.

Restrictions to the kinds of guns you can own and operate, as well as restrictions on WHERE you can operate certain kinds of guns.

Can't operate a gun if intoxicated or impaired.

Abide by various safety regulations.

Pay a tax when transferring a gun to a third party.

Create a federal agency tasked with improving gun safety.

Sounds good to me!

I have a feeling the gun nuts would not approve, though. That would cramp their style somewhat.

Yeah, how can licensed individuals accidentally kill more each year than unlicensed. Doesnt help your case much.

230 million registered vehicles in the US. Most driven daily. The last best guess was about 350,000,000 total in Firearms (FBI estimate since we don't register weapons).

Of those firearms a very small number are used weekly. I'd say less than 10 percent are fired on a weekly basis. On the other hand probably 70% to 80% of registered vehicles are driven weekly if not daily.

So your whole "lets compare auto deaths to gun deaths" is quite absurd just based on the usage factor.

Unless you shoot traps or targets, the fact is the main usage of a firearm is to kill something. The main use of a car is for transportation. Laws and safety measures have been enacted to drop the death rates in automobile over the last 100 years; all while firearms have gotten even more lethal and available.

And for the most part, they have worked. Vehicle deaths in 2011 hit their lowest number since 1949.

I think homicides reached their lowest levels since the 60s last year, while firearm ownership is at record levels. I wonder if it's just coincidence or if it's related?

The entire argument to "fix or address" all other forms of causation before firearms are regulated is ridiculous.

The fact is that the 2nd Amendment says this.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Since they like to quote this so often, where's the regulated part? If you see that's one sentence and the right to keep and bear arms is joined with the "Regulated Militia". Not separated.

It's pure BS to only use half of the entire sentence and consider it constitutionally correct.

So the Supreme Court keeps getting it wrong over and over and over?

How many of those have to do with the 2nd amendment and firearms? Zero. I'd like you to supply something that is relevant to the conversation. It's obvious you are incapable of discussing the subject.

Here ya go.
