Im on my phone now. Post sources Ill check them later. I may be thinking malpractice deaths.

Also, your firearms deaths are probably including accidents and self-inflicted deaths.

None of that matters. Cars are useful for things outside of death. Guns are not. That is all. You guys are so obsessed with pointing out pitfalls you act like anything outside of a perfect/no holes strategy is all that can be considered. And then nothing is considered. This is why a compromise or god forbid a dialogue is completely out of reach.

My source: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/injury.htm

They likely are including accidents. What does that matter? That's what most motor vehicle deaths ARE - accidents.

If you want to compare murder-by-gun numbers and murder-by-car numbers, we can go ahead...

Thanks for posting the link. I had time to review it now and you're correct, the numbers between auto-related deaths and gun-related deaths are comparable. (I was thinking about medical mistakes with the 120,000/year number.)

In posting these numbers I'm attempting to showcase the idiocy of calling for more gun laws when things like auto-related deaths are similar. Nobody's outraged over those numbers. Why not? Is it acceptable that so many people die each year in that matter? Kind of sounds like folks being outraged over one death in Florida when over 500 in Chicago just fly under the radar.

Why wouldn't it?

Because to rational, thinking people, a death is a death and it's not any more acceptable because it's an accident. If folks are truly concerned about saving people they'd work to end all deaths, not just the ones they disagree with.

I guess you've never heard of hunting, the shooting sports or self defense? To say guns have no use is false. I used a gun all weekend and nobody died. The other nine people in my class used guns too and all of us had a great deal of fun. Highly useful if you ask us. Additionally, we paid the instructors for sharing their skills so, contrary to what Obama and Feinstein may tell you, guns help create jobs!

A compromise? What are you suggesting? I'm all for dialogue so let's hear it.

Universal back ground checks? No loopholes? Criminal offense to not report lost/stolen guns?

Universal back ground checks?

Where do you think most criminals get their guns? And if background checks were required in those transactions, do you think the person (who is already breaking the law, by the way) would do one? I assume since they're already breaking the current laws they'd just go ahead and break those new laws as well. Is making something more illegal a good way to stop it?

No loopholes?

Which loopholes are you referring to? Your loopholes question, I'm assuming, is in relation to universal background checks that aren't currently required. See above.

Criminal offense to not report lost/stolen guns? Current law requires all licensed dealers to do so. Private citizens aren't required but I'd bet the vast majority of them get reported because they're expensive. If you lost something worth several hundred (or thousand) dollars, you'd likely report it, wouldn't you? Same if it was stolen?

ROGERSVILLE — A Virginia couple who took their five children on an outing at Bays Mountain Park Sunday afternoon were greeted with gunfire shortly after crossing the Hawkins County line in an attempt to take a scenic route home.

Thank god it was not Chicago and she just got warning shots.

Firearm deaths verses auto deaths?...Licensed cars and drivers verses unlicensed weapons and no background checks?

Makes perfect flipping sense. no0pb.gif

Yeah, lets not do anything to tighten it up.

What does Chicago have to do with it?

Warning shots get you 20 years in Florida.

Yeah, how can licensed individuals accidentally kill more each year than unlicensed. Doesnt help your case much.
