Nobody's saying guns are THE problem. They aren't. But to deny that such easy access to guns is a problem is to live in denial.

Only the strictly pro-gun crowd seems to think the rest of us liberty haters think it's all about their precious guns.

You've got something there, Ms. Lane. To expound a bit - what are your thoughts on legalizing dueling?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

You just basically said no one is saying guns are the problem, then said guns are the problem in the same post

I can see how you would think that. Doesn't surprise me.

I said they aren't THE problem. Meaning they are not the only one. But they are part of a larger problem.

Whoops!

Nope, just someone looking for hidden meaning in my posts again rather than reading what I'm saying.

As I've said all along, I don't think guns themselves are the problem. I think easy access to them are a part of a larger problem in this country.

All this talk about gun violence and the high number of murders, etc. Do any of you actually know a victim of gun violence? I mean, has this even touched your daily life?

I've noticed in talking to most people who are concerned about the "alarming numbers" they don't know a single person who's ever been victimized.

Does someone's opinion hold more water if they do?

Not at all. But their position would make more sense.

Some of you folks talk about all this violence yet it's only a theory for you. It's about like me saying I need a gun for protection and you know how much water that holds!

Does the violence being talked about not exist?

Sure it does. I'm just trying to figure out why this same violence that causes some of you to call for more gun laws is completely ignored when I'm being "paranoid" and carrying a gun in the unlikely event that it happens to me.

It's almost like you're having it both ways. "You don't need to carry a gun... but we need more gun laws."

Which is it?

No. As usual, you simply aren't listening.

There's nothing confusing about "I don't think guns are the problem, but easy access to them is part of a bigger problem."

I don't think carrying a gun around for protection is paranoid all on its own. I don't want to take that right away from you, either. If you feel the need to carry a gun, then you should be able to carry a gun.

I didn't think you were the paranoid type until you posted those bizarre paragraphs about training the person in your car to grab the AK-47 in your trunk "just in case" things got out of control. And all you were doing was driving around. That's a mindset I don't understand, and don't want to. It reeks of paranoia. That at any moment, something so awful is going to happen that your only response will have to be the AK-47 you carry around in your Jeep.

I think guns should be harder to get for the people who shouldn't have them. That's it, really. I don't pretend to have a solution to that issue. But it IS an issue.

This is really simple:

For those places that high strict laws and high crime, don't focus on gun laws. Focus on education and jobs. Lack of both these things leads to violent crime.

For those places that have lax laws and folks "go crazy" and shoot up the place, look to putting mental health into the background check.

Case in point, if you removed every gun in Vermont(calm down Gary, it's just a scenario) you wouldn't have a rampge of crime. Unemployment is low there and the economy is strong.

There have been quite a few cases where mentally unstable folks have gotten guns legally and killed people with them. Start there, and work your way up.

Someone hit me in the face with a gun back in 1983. Does that count?

Seems logical to me.
