Whatever happened to thank you?

I've noticed in the immigration forum, that there have been a few times an OP doesn't even extend a simple thank you to the member, sometimes several members, who took the time to answer their question. whatever happened to some people's manners.

I some times wonder the same thing, Sometimes I spend quite some time researching an answer to a question.

I know I do it to help my self learn about the complexities of this process, and help others who don't know how or where to look for the answers.

I always get a good feeling when an OP or other member says Thanks.

I'm getting used to people not saying Thank you. I usually say it at least 3 times but I guess it depends how you were brought up maybe?

I think it, but often don't say it, because I don't want to bump my post up just to say 'thanks'. It puts my post on top of others who still need the help. If every single person replied saying 'thanks' to having their problem solved, then there'd be a lot of threads pushed back to page 10 without even an answer to the question.

Along the same line, although I don't get angry or upset with anyone saying thank you, of course, I can see why some people might get frustrated when a topic gets bumped to the top, and you might think 'Oh, theres more important new information in this topic', and it's nothing more than a 'Thanks!'.

At times I have PM'd someone that helped me...perhaps thanks are being given but they just don't see the need for the entire forum to just see their thanks (as stated above).

On a (slightly) related topic, it really pisses me off when I say thank you to someone and they reply "uh huh". I just think that's the height of rudeness.

I just say thanks in my original post and sometimes will say thanks after. I overly thank people in my life and what's worse then not saying thank you is not getting acknowledged by a "your welcome" or a "no problem, my pleasure" I don't mean here on VJ but out there in the "real world" hehe...

ChristinaM: I just read your post and my lonnnggg post up there agrees with you!

I have also noticed that sometimes the OP doesn't even come back to read the thread, because some people trying to help ask the OP to clarify so they can help and there is never an answer from the OP. So I wonder, why they post if they are not reading the answers....

I usually say thanks because like YuAndDan said, they take time to research our Q's and I appreciate their time and effort. Thanks again!

People in general don't tend to say thank you. Offline or online. Kind of makes you feel inclined to do less and less for others.

I very often say thank you, but I think the debate for some is if adding a thank you could be viewed by administrators as padding your post totals... It may not be rudeness at all. Some times I don't give a thank you for that very reason.

Just a thought!
