I just received an email today saying "Current Status: Approval notice sent." for my wifes I-485. I do not understand, we already received the welcome letter and the email that said card production ordered, so why would they mail another approval notice?

I think this approval notice means that they have mailed you your green card. I got mine on 11/29 and received the green card today 12/01. With the green card there’s a paper that say: “Your application has been approved”, so I think this is what they are calling approval notice.

Hi fellow Immigrants :)

this is a really great place for information about the whole process. I wish I had found it before I did all my paperwork.

I don't quite get the order of the different notices they send out.

My case (AOS) was transferred to CSC on Oct. 12, had a touch on Nov. 14, then I received 3 identical emails saying "Current Status: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident." on Nov. 27. On Nov. 28 I had another touch and today (Dec. 1) I received another set of 3 identical emails with "Current Status: Approval notice sent." I didn't yet recieve the snail mail notices though and I didn't get an email that they ordered my card.

Can I assume that the card is on the way now or do I still need to get the card production announcement? For some reason it seems that not everybody gets the same email notices and they don't always come in the same order. What does the welcome letter say? And why do they send that out only a few days before the approval notice? Wouldn't the case need to be approved before they welcome me as a new resident? Also the welcome email mentioned possible steps instructed in the welcome letter concerning the ADIT process. Am I right about this being the biometrics (which I completed already so this must be a standard phrase in the email) or is there more to it?

FYI: I filed AOS, EAD and AP together through the lockbox (recived Sept. 27). Nothing (not even a touch besides the NOA) yet for EAD and AP. Bio was done in beginning of Oct. in Indianapolis. CSC seemed to have approved my AOS without an interview and without a new medical or vacc supplement (didn't get a new one assuming they would have a copy of the medical for my K-1 - I didn't even include a copy of my medical from Germany since they didn't give me a copy of it - in fact I didn't mention anything about the medical in my AOS packet). In hindsight I'm kinda surprised I didn't get an RFE after reading through the forums here.

woohoo, just checked my mailbox: i received the welcome letter (saying my card would arrive within 3 weeks)

and a second letter containing the card! i can't believe it! the welcome letter was postmarked nov. 29 and the card letter nov. 30. - doesn't really match the emails. the card says resident since nov. 22.

it only took 72 days from sending the application to receiving the card (62 days from the day they received my application to the day they approved it). i'm so happy!

does anyone know if they will still send me the ap and ead? not that i would need it now...

When we had our interview the officer said that we may or may not get the EAD because when they are processing the EAD or AP, they will see that the I-485 is already approved and green card is being delivered. In this case they will not proceed with further processing of the EAD or AP.

What a waste of money!
