Ok here is our scenario. Vika is getting ready for her interview and I know she wont need vaccination records for that but she needs to bring them with her for AOS. She is a nurse and when she originally got the job she of course had to show all vaccinations were done. But somewhere along the line of starting her job until today the records were misplaced. Would a letter from one of the top doctors at the hospital testifying that she did receive the vaccinations prove to be sufficient? Or an other recommendations you all have would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your help.

No, a letter is not sufficient. But since this was proven for employment couldn't the doctor recreate the vaccination record? If he knows it to be true...why not? That is essentially what a civil surgeon would do in the USA after you pay him hundreds of dollars for titre tests. The titre tests only prove what is not known. Vika knows how this works Brent. She knows what to do.

Another option...the hospital or clinic she has used should have this information. Alla and I took a walk to the local hospital where she had gone all her life,,,and the boys also,,,and they pulled out and made copies of all her vaccination records right then and there. They exist somewhere...where did she get them before? Doesn't the place she works for have them? Heck we had to give copies of those forms to schools here for Alla and Pasha, they woul dhave them if we needed another copy. I think Alla also had to give them to the local hospital since she works as an interpreter there, I know she had to have a TB test also. Someone has a copy of them.

Yes the hospital where she works had them but they aren't there for some reason. She has one local doctors office to try. But yes I agree, she knows what to do. We discussed this after I posted this and we talked about it she is going to talk to the doctor she works under. She was going to talk to him when she got off work in the morning.

Side note, American nurse have no idea what rest of the world is like. A friends wife was talking about working here in Baton Rouge and how she had 4 12 hour shifts and 8 patients one night. I didn't saw anything but Vika works 24 hour shifts. And at one point she was working 4 24 hour shifts a week when they were short handed. That was tough on an internet relationship! Oh and No overtime in Ukraine. It was funny when I asked if she would get OT she had no clue what I meant. And the patient load is crazy. Sometimes she will have 20 to 30 patients herself while also playing security to keep the drunks from wondering in to see family at 3:00am. Crazy!

What will be required to be a nurse in LA you will have to check on. In Vermont their education can be evaluated and if equivilent (it is) they can take the certification tests.

Alla does interpretation at the hospital so she knows the nurses well and is even enrolled in nursing school now (starting 2nd year in Sept.) but not sure she will actually be a nurse. (she IS a student, though) laughing.gif

Anyway, here the nurses typically work 3, 12 hour shifts each week and are paid a LOT of money, starting in the $28 per hour range for a fresh one to $40+/hr for experienced nurses. That is not getting rich, but in the USA nursing is a two year program...who else is making that money for 2 years education? There are differentials for nights, evening, weekends and weekend nights. Someone working their three shifts over a Friday, Saturday, Sunday 7pm-7am shifts really cleans up! About $1200 per week for a 3 day week. They have options to work extra hours and can call a scheduling office any day and see what shifts are available for that day.

Ukrainian nurses have it hard and do not get paid for sh*t (which is why there is not enough of them) overime in Ukraine is kind of unheard of. I worked construction there and every night we had "extra jobs". We would have called it "overtime"... but for them it was just extra work. The job duties were posted and the amount of pay posted. It might be something like "10 men to move materials, $10" This could be shoveling stone into wheelbarrows and moving it until 11pm, in the dark. No, they never heard of a "bobcat" either. laughing.gif Each man would get $10 USD or the equivilent in Euros. The UAH was pretty worthless at the time, (pre Orange Revolution) we paid cash, Euros or USD. But these men worked long hard days, 6 days per week and made about $300 per MONTH. They could make another $100 easily with extra work. Some were there every day for extra work and worked 16+ hours but could double their income for the month.

If Vika speaks English well and has medical education, consider being an interpreter. Alla makes $35 per hour for that but does not get so many hours of course, but it has worked well while she was a student. Maybe in your area there would be more demand. Alla does 8-10 interpretations per week and gets a minimum 1 hour for each, but often it is more than that. She may be able to do both!

She should be able to put together her vaccine records. It is no tthe end of the world either way but the CS's can be true leeches.

Make sure she gets copies of all her educational transcripts, course by course, her diplomas and certificates from high school on...when she gets here you can get them translated and send them for evaluation. It is just good stuff to have and for a profession it is really necessary.
