The National Rifle Association is trying to take out two Colorado legislators who responded to the Aurora and Sandy Hook massacres with tighter gun laws.

This morning, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he would consider backing the two legislators in a showdown that the Times described as "a test of whether politicians, largely Democrats, outside big cities and deep-blue coastal states can survive the political fallout of supporting stricter gun laws."

By dint of his dedication to the issue and deep pockets, Bloomberg has used his Mayors Against Illegal Guns to make himself the modern-day face of the gun control movement.

After reading this morning's newspaper about two like-minded legislators under duress, Bloomberg wrote himself a note to "check" if Mayors Against Illegal Guns, the organization he co-founded and funds, would support the two Democrats against the N.R.A.

"I certainly hope so," he said, adding, "These two elected officials apparently had the courage to stand up and vote for a sensible gun law where you just have background checks to keep people with mental illnesses … and people with criminal records from buying guns. Something that 80 or 90 percent even of N.R.A. members are in favor of."

So, the NRA is not even in touch with it's own members? Who knew?

As usual liberal media would only tell half baked truth.

John Morse and Giron were not just supporting for general background check which is done anyways when a FFL does the sale.

Colorado gun laws that limit ammunition magazines and require universal background checks on all sales and transfers

They were supporting for universal background check which most NRA member never agreed with, most NRA member never agreed with limiting the size of magazine.

They supported other restriction like stricter regulation for getting a permit.

So I am not sure if the reporter is not in touch with reality or just decides not to let the readers know the reality.
