Good Morning,

now that I have my NOA2 I am working on planning my move. I will be driving down in order to move everything as inexpensively as possible. I am wondering if nyone knows if the Coutts Alberta crossing processes K1's or if I have to go through Cardston.

Any advice would be greately Appreciated.

One can always google their phone # and ask, some only do it during certain hours

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thank you. I did end up googling it and saw they have immigration services. It isn't a huge issue time wise, but I am trying to plan everything. Driving down with my mom and dog already has me nervous as all get out. I am trying to think of every little thing I could possibly need and I only found out Saturday that we are approved. now I am going to be anxiously awaiting the case number so we can get the interview and medical booked.

I went through Sweetgrass and it was very easy. They didn't even look in our uhaul. We parked, went inside, and did more standing around than anything else.

I suggest going through there on a weekday vs weekend, they're less busy.

I went through Sweetgrass as well. They know what they are doing there and I went through on a Sunday evening and was processed in fairly good time (CR-1 and CR-2).

Del Bonita isn’t as big of a crossing that Sweetgrass is and it isn’t a 24/7 crossing. They shut it down at night.

Given the choice of the two, I would go Sweetgrass/Coutts.

Of course you are!!!

:D

We drove straight through but omg I wish we'd stopped. Hubs did most of the driving despite the plans to switch out every couple hours. Stubborn man. (I've called him a "typical egotistical American male" to which he replies, "Hell ya!" LOL)

lol We have our route planned, and now I just need visa approval So I can book hotels, a moving truck, and get all other papers in place. I am the least patient person so any waiting has already been painful. My Fiance won't be driving with me, He can't afford to take time off so my mom will be driving with me. We iwll trade off, and make stops. I am not a massochist to drive straight through. I have done the cross country moves so this is nothing new.

Ours was only 18 hours. Had it been longer, we would have stopped. He's done more than enough moving and hates travelling. I would say the trip from Guam to the USA to Iraq was bad enough for him to never want to travel again. Heck just Guam to the USA is a headache!

If you go with Uhaul--(That is what I used) ensure you go thoroughly over the truck--Check all fluid levels--tire psi--as Uhaul as a record of not keeping up with their maintenance. I had no problems with my truck, it was one of the bigger ones, and I achieved around 10 mpg with it, then again, I was not exactly easy on the gas peddle, lol

Well now it is crunch time. Visa in hand and 5.5 weeks to pack and get things in place. What all did you need for taking things through in a big truck? I have been documenting everything as we pack it, but I know there is a specific form I need to cross with so that it is all Duty free and such.

I was in a U-haul truck.....I made a MS office document--table format! Had headings like--Item, serial # if applicable, approx value (prob not required) Kept it simple..did no tlist every single item, but grouped things together. Customs guy barely even looked at it...but best to have something just in case they do care. For my own use--I labelled the boxes
