ABOARD THE PAPAL AIRCRAFT (AP) — Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip.

"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.

Pope Francis is definitely rocking the boat. He is taking the church back to the basics. He has called for a poor church to help the poor. He doesn't wear the Gucci shoes like his predecessors. He is a humble man and seems to live as Jesus taught.

Worshipped? I hope not. If they really believe in that religion then they should look at the first commandment. The pope is not meant to be "worshipped;" the pope is just a person.

Hate to pop the bubble but he said he would not judge in the context of a priest with gay tendencies who was not active.

He in no way suggested there is no judgement on the act of homosexuality.

This is consistent with Church teaching, nothing new here.
