Hi guys

I'm going to Mexico this month (know it today!) And my question is, as a Thai, I would need a visa for Mexico.. But I have a green card, so the Mexican embassy said I can cross the border just using my green card.

I'm just wondering has anybody done this before? I'm just a bit paranoid here..

Thanks! B)

With your green card you should be fine but it would be smart to check into the immigration rules for Mexico on their website. You will get tourist visa form on the plane to fill out and present at immigration with your passport.

My wife and I have visited both Canada and Mexico and she only needed to show an ID and her green card. She had her Thai passport with her and used that as ID, but I think she could have entered with another form of ID such as a driver license. She was actually a little disappointed because she wanted a stamp in her passport to show that she had been there, and with a green card you don't get a stamp. As pointed out above, if you are going to stay awhile you will need a visa.

My husband and I just came back from Mexico yesterday. He's a Filipino citizen so I think the immigration rules are about the same as for Thai citizens - visa not needed if you're a Green Card holder, but needed in all other cases. We had no problems getting into Mexico or back with him using his Philippine passport + Green card. The whole process was very smooth and painless.

By the way, both of us got our passports stamped when we entered Mexico! Maybe they dont do this at all POEs, but at the Cancun airport they do :)

JOURNEY HIGHLIGHTS

04/23/05: Sent fiance petition (I-129F) to VSC

10/26/05: K-1 visa in hand

02/17/06: Flight to U.S. - POE Anchorage

03/01/06: We got married!!

03/04/06: Applied for Adjustment of Status

07/31/06: Received 2-Year Green Card in the mail

04/08/08: Sent application for Removal of Conditions to VSC

03/20/09: Received 10-year Green Card in the mail

04/11/09: Mailed N-400 application to Lewisville, TX Lockbox

08/18/09: Citizenship interview in Garden City, NY

08/27/09: Sworn in as a U.S. Citizen in Brooklyn Court House

08/29/09: Applied for U.S. Passport (routine service)

09/25/09: Received U.S. Passport in the mail
