we just had our biometrics for my wife. i am an american citizen and my wife is awaiting here 10 year green card to come in the mail within 6 months. i know it is ok to travel to canada as long as she has her proper paper work. my question...is she allowed to work in canada? we live pretty close to the canadian border.

Whether she is allowed to work in Canada is a matter between her and the Canadian government. I think she would probably need a Canadian work visa.

If she files for one, she should be careful that working in Canada is not construed as abandonment of her US residence, or she could lose that green card.

Sounds like she could become a US citizen within a year. That would come with (a) permanent freedom to travel and work abroad without risking the loss of US residence rights, and (b) certain NAFTA privileges which could make it easier to get permission from Canada to work there, depending on her field of work.

Spouse-based AOS from out-of-status H-1B, May - Aug 2012

Removal of conditions, Aug - Nov 2014
